COLD and RAIN
Here again
And I just mixed up 10 cups of sugar to fill all 5 hummingbird feeders since they emptied all of them in 24 hours
So they used up most of the 8lbs of sugar we just got.
Probably off to the store again tomorrow.
Be nice if the rain would stop and the temp could get close to 60 so I can get yard work done before it is time to mow again.

Re: COLD and RAIN
Lookin' good, Magic. Winter took a toll on the little bit of vegetation I have. Well, that and I've not really been able to get out there and putz around.
The pontoon has been launched and little league is in full swing, not going to be much time for yard work this year. PRIORITIES

Re: COLD and RAIN
Thanks Kurt
Yeah sometimes I wish my yard was the size of yours and I know you wouldn't have extra time to do all of this never-ending project.
That is just one third of my lawn too
Good thing my Mrs isn't a boat addict anymore since I know nothing about them and they cost too much here.
The weatherman just said sunshine will start tomorrow and we have a nice week coming so I will be out mixing concrete and try to get this project done before I have to mow again (damn price of gas just for the mower is bad enough)
You can sort of see my next project.........on the right side of that pic you can see a 4ft X 4ft concrete and brick square where I have a patch of a certain type of flowers (this is to stop grass and weeds from sneaking in and making it easy to mow around in the future) so I am doing the same thing on the opposite side of that satellite dish - flower box......and of course I have to make all the dimensions to match the other one and distance from the house.
I keep telling myself if I get all of these projects done that all I will have to do is drive the mower around.......yeah right
I couldn't handle having neighbors as close as you do but I imagine you have much more free time and I hope you and the Mrs have many more decades

Re: COLD and RAIN
Nice tomatoes Cravn!
I actually grew some nice ones here several years ago and got my first crop before the end of May
Grew em for Mom and she was amazed since we were having a contest to see who would do the best and the fastest
I finally had to tell her I was using a trick and every night bringing them in the house and every morning putting them back out (which isn't easy for me to do)
It is too cold at night here to grow the nice ones until July
Btw did you mix the H-bird food the way I told you?
2 cup measuring cup of sugar and then mix in as much water as you can and stir it up and then 2 mins in the microwave to heat it and then stir it up again which makes it mix better.........pour that into the feeder and then top it off with just water.
Of course you would have to have the same size feeders as I use to do this and I really never measured how much those feeders hold (about 4 cups total maybe)
Once they try it they will expect it to have food all the time and you will have them forever after that.
Only other problem could be that the former owner of your place never fed them and they just go to your neighbors since you have plenty of them.
I can't even see any of my neighbors here so they don't visit any of them.
I have close to 100 right now and by tonight all 5 feeders will be empty so that is 19 cups of sugar every damn day......and we will have to go buy some tomorrow since we are almost out again.......better get about 20lbs this time.
Of course it is Mothers Day so she expects me to do somthing.....her son lives in Idaho (truck driver) so he gets off doing this and her daughter lives in town but she is a 40 year old nutcase so a good day is one where a phone call is more than enough
Does Drew have a day picked out or is he waiting until he is the next Frank Lloyd Wright??
Or *David Vincent?........ok you might not be old enough to remember that name
The Invaders, alien beings from a dying planet.
Their destination: the Earth.
Their purpose: to make it their world.
David Vincent has seen them.
For him, it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a shortcut that he never found.
It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey.
It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy.
Now David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form.
Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun.

Re: COLD and RAIN
Yeah tell Drew that is a better idea
You would be even more amazed if you were taking the pictures of those hummingbirds.
I was sitting on top of a ladder and as many as you see in the pic are buzzing all around me and they would buzz up and look right in the lens.
And they are all over the butterfly bush next to these feeders and there is also 2 other feeders on other sides of the house full of birds.......hard to count them but when the babies hatch there will be about 100 of them here.
Yesterday we went and got 20 more pounds of sugar just to last until the next shopping trip.
I do wish I had some of the east coast versions too since you could get some that look different than the 2 types I get most of the time (Anna's and Ruphus)
Ok I got up early for me today since we get a week of sunshine so outside I go.........lighting up a pile of wood and branches I have been saving so we can roast some hot dogs and while it is burning mix a few bags of concrete so I ......um....kill 2 birds with one stone

Re: COLD and RAIN
I don't have a yard of my own right now...but here soon I will have a 10 acre lake for the backyard and a 1 acre lagoon for the front yard. Moving to Speedway in an apartment. Staying there for a year and then revisiting my career and life options....
We are going all "corporate" at work and they are telling me I have to get back on my freelancing..... I don't think I can thrive in that kind of environment. (seriously I have NEVER had anybody say we can't innovate in my life) I haven't signed a lease yet though, I could find work farther west and then just stay at the lake and have no rent or mortgage...
I was never a fan of corporate America... smh

Re: COLD and RAIN
Just took this pic while I mowed the entire 3 acres today with $10 worth of gas
It is down by the gate at the start of the driveway and that is a flowering tree that my sister gave me for my birthday in 1987 and right after that on Fathers Day she died in a car wreck so this is named after her and I never forget her (Kimberly Marie)
The rhodies are just starting to bloom so it will look real nice in a few days.
Front yard is about 100 yards X 100 yards
Supposed to rain for a few days so I had to do all the work today.
(I am also in progress of rebuilding the water fall on my creek since it was coming apart so I am making it out of concrete and tiles and stones and am half done and doing this as the creek is running over it isn't easy)
no pics of that yet
