Venus and Jupiter
So bright again in a clear morning sky east of where I am.
3:45am and I have to go outside and look at those two and the rest of the sky since it is warm and clear finally.
We get the meteor showers next week so I hope the sky stays like this.

Re: Venus and Jupiter
Yeah it is so clear here finally that I could see the stars around them too .....even with the Moon still shining bright right now.
BUT I got so damn lucky this morning........I am out by the pond looking east at the planets so the Moon is behind me and I look north to see what is that way and I see what looks like a bright star so I start walking behind the house over by that tower so I can see a spot where the trees aren't in the way and this bright star is moving towards ME !!
Well after all these years I knew instantly it was the ISS and I watched it go NW to SE until it is out of sight but as it went over the pond it was in a perfect line with Venus and Jupiter......wish I could have taken a picture of that
I was hoping you were out looking too since I know you always get up early some how.
Must be all your truck driving years.
I hope to sit out in about 10 days when we get the Perseid meteor showers again!
I come in the house and tell the wife how I got lucky to see the ISS again tonight and I get on the laptop and tell her it was crossing Venuzuela and then she started telling me there was no way and I must not know wtf.....all the typical chick talk.
You would think after 25 years she would know that if anyone here knows this stuff it is the mad scientist here
I told her how fast the ISS goes and she tried to tell me there is no way......lmao......I swear what a goofball women are some times.
She started saying the rockets and the old shuttles could never catch up to the ISS if it was going 16,000mph
She was a sail boat builder but she knows nothing about physics or even basic NASA facts.....and hell she has actually been down there where you are before when rockets blasted off and I have never been there.
opposites attract as they say

Re: Venus and Jupiter
Less than a minute ago I go a nice long look at the ISS as it went across the sky here.
Funny thing I forgot it was going to pass over me at 3am and just happened to be looking out the window and there it was......so I went outside and watched.
Probably too light out for you to see it this time Cravn but it only takes a couple minutes to get over your area.
It looks like I get another 6 minutes ISS pass at about 4:30am so if I'm awake I will take another look.
It is brightest as it is coming towards you and right up above you.
Here is that link where you can look up the times to see it where you live.

The Rover landed a few minutes ago.
I watched NASA TV on the bigscreen and the audio/video from the ISS on my laptop.
Already have pictures sent back from Mars to C.I.T.

Re: Venus and Jupiter
What you may have saw was the Russian Soyuz that is following it about that far behind.
It is also on that schedule page when you look at the ISS times
Just scroll down.
It is the one that replaced the Shuttle to deliver supplies.
BTW I have some other very strange story to tell about this........I have to get back to listening and wish my Russian was better.
I used my laptop tonight watching the Mars rover landing and used the ISS feed.
Well now my laptop is sitting in the bathroom NOT running any NASA or ISS website and the last hour it has been picking up the audio from the ISS back to the NASA team.....I didn't have the audio turned off on the laptop and it started talking in Russian and the reply was in English and it just continued and after a while I heard the voice of a NASA guy that I have heard before.
Thought it could be the Soyuz giving numbers back to NASA or the ISS and a Russian cosmo up there.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY my laptop is picking this up.
I had to come upstairs to my desktops to type this and check some other info just so I don't make the laptop stop doing this.
.....back later

The ISS only takes 90 minutes to circle the Earth once so I get it 90 after the first one I saw.
The path changes a little every time around so eventually it won't be close enough for me to see it until the next time the angle is just right.
I just pick one of the listed cities close to me.
Port Angeles is 50 miles west of me so it only takes a minute to fly over me.
You will notice how the angular of the revolution changes the time they tell you that it will be visible.
Like the last couple days I got the 5 and 6 minute ones and lots of them are only visible for one minute.
The best for me is when it crosses over the west side of Alaska down over the Olympic Peninsula.
The 5 minute ones are best and watching it fly right over you on a clear night when the Moon is not out the ISS is as bright as Venus is right now......and moving in the perfect straight line,

Nothing like good old father time, waking me up at 4:15 this am with the "night call" which prompted me to go outside and see the 4:25am crossing of the ISS..
