At the end of the regular season we should anoint the REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION!!! This title would carry even weight with the PLAY OFF CHAPMPION!!!

The play offs would be formatted to carry equal point opportunity with the regular season. Let's say 17 X 5 = 85 plus Thanksgiving points. All this means is we would weight the play off games higher like 10 x 5 = 50 plus some parlay points to get it to say 70 and then leave about 20 points for the Super Bowl. The bonus points for picking Super Bowl participants and winner would balance out the points you could earn in the regular season for a true perfecta.

Once the dust settles you would add up the total points (regular season and play offs) for the two winners 1) regular season 2) play off champ and the total point winner is crowed the BC Champ. If someone wins both they automatically are the Champ.

This would prevent us from minimizing the regular season and only rewarding the championship to the play off winner. Seems to me that 17 weeks of hard work should not be thrown away for 11 play off games in which one of the play off games (SB) carrier half the wieght or greater. In the current formate we are basically just anointing the Super Bowl Champ.
===============================================
Now before the goons start swearing at me and telling me what a renegade I just want you to know that I'm all about perfecting what has become a very valued yearly tradition. (I hope you can hear that guy in Fiddler on the Roof signing "tradition" when you read the word) lol

Last I checked I lived in the USA where we are known for our free speech and ingenuity. Then again for all I know this is one of those Russin based web sites and the Cadre really live in greater Siberia Two eyes and teeth Crap, I've never seen any of them in person so who knows pecker

It makes sense. It could work.

But don't forget one thing, SA.....from the moment Callura and I started talking about creating this game, the FIRST thing I said to him was, "We should make the rules of this game patterned after the NFL".

I never stopped saying that. I constantly argued with that dude to do just that......pattern our game after the NFL. We did a good job with the regular season format, but totally screwed up the playoff structure. So when Callura melted down the final time and was given the boot, I finally fixed the playoff format to more closely mimic the pro game. This is why I decided to set it up like it is.

This would prevent us from minimizing the regular season and only rewarding the championship to the play off winner.
Isn't this what the NFL does? wink

Seems to me that 17 weeks of hard work should not be thrown away for 11 play off games in which one of the play off games (SB) carrier half the wieght or greater.
Isn't this the spirit of the NFL? When the playoffs start, everybody starts over with a 0-0-0 record wink

In the current formate we are basically just anointing the Super Bowl Champ.
Isn't this exactly what the NFL does?? wink

Now, having said that......perhaps we could throw the idea around of giving division winners one extra selection in each of the 3 playoff rounds. For example, each division winner would have a choice of 6 bonus selections to choose from. Each division winner would select ONE of those choices. If the player hits the selection, he gets a bonus point, or perhaps one-half point.

Don't think that wouldn't make a big difference by the time the SB is played. An extra couple of points can make ALL the difference considering the way the playoff points are allocated now.

Yeah, that's something to think about........

Post  Swanshaft 1/27/2008, 11:53 am

I stated this in a post earlier this year, and got cursed out, but since no one seems to be cursing....

If we really are trying to emulate the NFL in both Regular Season play and Playoff Scenarios, would it not make the most sense then to keep the current Regular Season format, and only have division winners plus X number of wildcard winners play in the playoffs? The playoff players would all start on an even field, no advantages, and to the players that did not make the playoffs, better luck next year?

This was just my thoughts on your post Mighty, and in now way am I telling anyone how to run this thing especially since I am just a rookie. Please dont go all rambo on my ass... rambo ramborampage goner

Swan, we can't do that. We can't tell 80% of the players "Since you didn't have a near-perfect regular season, you're out".

This game still has to be fun for everybody, or else they won't play!! Neither will mighty_colts!! The idea is to pattern our game after the league we follow. It won't be exactly the same, but we need to stick as close to it as possible while still having a good time doing it. The closer our game is to the real thing, the more authentic it is.

Wanna be a Division Champ? Then perform well week after week and earn it. Prove you're a quality handicapper and have your name posted in the Archives with the other strong 'cappers that year.

But do you wanna be a BC Champ??? Well, hells bells!!!! Who doesn't!!! You'd better perform well in the playoffs and then win the Super Bowl, that's all I can say.

I can't understand how anybody can think that's a bad format lol

hmmmmmmm.......maybe we can work something out with our own version of a "bye week" for division winners.

I still like my idea of giving each division winner an extra selection each playoff round, giving them a chance to pick up a few extra points....but they'll still have to earn those extra playoff points.

We'll have to think about this during the offseason.

Heres my theory on spelling: I suck at typing, Ive never had any kind of course, No way in hell can my fingers keep up with the old noggin. I know I make mistakes.

Now heres problem #1 Firefox has built in Spell Check, but there is no excellerator for dial up with Firefox. IE I can get an Excellerator that speeds me up 10x quicker, but IE dosent have Spell Check. Why cant those two get there shit together.

Like swan says Mighty C.........And you say that you wanted this game patterned after the NFL.Well the I guess the Dolphins,Lions and the raiders of the BC are just not gonna cut it in the BC playoff format.

It`s pattered after the NFL you know.

people should realize that.
I`m another one that thought all the hard work during the regular season gets much of nothing(although 30 bones back is good).
But to pattern the NFL,The division winners and best record should account for something here(called home feild advantage).
Thats where I like SA`s thinking, either give the division winners an extra bonus to try and get pts or give them a 2 pt lead for division winner and a 1 pt lead for the wild cards,or just eliminate the the scrubs all together and give a 1 or 2 pt. lead the to the division winners and wild card gets 0 pts to start out.
Hey i play fantasy football every year and the last two years I scubbed it(never take Bush no.1 sucks )and I sat out the playoffs...........It sucks,BUUUUt it is patterened after the NFL.

Besides the participants that don`t make it to the playoffs could actually still play, maybe throw a little of the chips out for a little consolation prize and keep most of it for the ones that deserve it.

Damn thats a lot of writing.I`m probably just rambling on here.Hopefully some of it makes sense.............

Playing for free is a pretty good bonus, me thinks. It doesn't cost divsion winners anything to play. But it's possible we could give each division champ a chance at a few extra points in the 3 playoff rounds......but it can't be ridiculous like what some of the other guys want. They pretty much want the old scoring system where the regular season determines the BC Champ. But that's gone and it ain't comin' back.

Being a good regular season handicapper is one thing......but being a good playoff handicapper is another. Anybody who can't handle the playoffs, or needs a playoff hedge in order to win, has no business being called a champ.

We'll work something out, but it can't be ridiculous. We have to keep the Welfare Points to a minimum.

================================================In

In our fantasy league we call that the "toilet bowl". The bottom half can't go for the championship. They have their own bracket and play to be the winner of the toilet bowl. Bascially a consilatin (fuck yea I know that's miss spelled) prize. I still perefer my original idea and don't feel like we have to emulate the NFL but if youse guys decide we need to then I'm in favor of having two brackets at the end of the year. The real play offs and then the jack offs can play in the toilet bowl. That way everyone gets to play.

lol

The Playoffs and the Jackoffs laughing

There would be no Chips awarded to the division winners.

The top half of the players earn a trip to the Playoffs.
The BC Champion is crowned via the Playoffs.
The BC Champ and the Rudy winner collect 80% of the Chip Pot.

The bottom half of the players settle for the Jackoffs.
The "King Jack" is crowned via the Jackoffs.
The King Jack collects 20% of the Chip Pot.

That's freaking funny lol

I gotta admit.....I like it smile

BC Champion = king
Rudy Award Winner = unripebooya

King Jack = joker

The BC Champ wears the Golden Crown.
The King Jack wears a Joker's Cap.

I really do kinda like the Playoffs/Jackoffs idea.....it creates a true playoff atmosphere similiar to the NFL while at the same time giving ALL players an EQUAL shot at the Chips.

Could that be the answer?

My two cents: I think division winners should receive some sort of "bonus" going into the playoffs -- perhaps each starting with 2-3 points. Other than that, I'd change nothing.
