So I got my garden in this year
Yeah baby!!!
I can't wait, snap beans, snow peas, green onions, cucumbers, sweet corn (you better plant your own now, it's going to go sky high this year), carrots, iceberg lettuce, hot peppers, bell peppers, cherry tomatos and of COURSE my families own strain of TRUE heirloom tomatos..(we still grow from the original plants that my great-great grandmother started back in Penn when she was young...those seeds are like gold in my family) and of course some damn good Sugar baby melons and straberries.... MMMMMMM MMMMMM I can't wait for the harvest this year LOL
I also planted some potatoes, first time I've tried them so we'll see wht happens eh? (i figured you can't really hurt them too bad right?)
I still might put out some Okra..(you yankess don't know what you're missing with the Okra)
AND tommorow I'm going to go back and get some fruit trees...I already have a mature golden delicious tree, but I'm going to get a nice pear tree, some cherry trees, some blueberry bushes, and a peach tree and a red delicious tree as well... I've wanted my own mini orchard and this year I'm doing it... LOL
Also thinking of planting the fence line with some grape vines too...
Hey Magic, you oughta do old shock a favor and see if the folks that you get your seqoius from has a web-site I could order from, or perhaps the Magic man could spare one or 2 of the seedlings from the magic kingdom eh? Just think Magic you could be the Johnny Appleseed of the Seqouis that way... We'll spread those bad boys all over the country.. LOL

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Nice garden man!
Too much work for me since I have all the rest of my 5 acre park to take care of here.
Did you ever actually see your great-great grandmother?
For some reason my Dad doesn't check the family history (he is a Baptist 24/7 and doesn't seem to care about it)
All I know is my great grandfather was a minister at the original Wake Forest U and he was born in N.Carolina in 1852.
My grandfather moved to Wash. back in the late 1920's and was a farmer and all his neighbors had huge farms too (some are still there)
My Dad was born on that farm in 1932 and now the place is a winery.
I have been called "appleseed" by my Mom before since I do that every year with some plants ( I plant millions of poppy seeds all over the county and toss peppermint plants into the creek so it must be growing all along the 4 miles until it goes into the bay)
The sequoia tree thing is one I like doing because I will be leaving something behind that will be here for about 3000yrs and they will be huge since this is the valley with lots of water.
Hell if you lived closer you could get free ones from me!
I did a google search and see there is a place back in your area that sells 2ftrs and the price is lower the more you buy.
They grow fast after the first year too.
I will look for that link again or you can do a google search or look around at the garden places in your area and get a good price on the 4ft to 8ft ones and they are worth the price......just plan for the future when you plant them because they get real wide and that one next to my house is big enough that I could hide my 4X4 beind it easy and it was a 4ftr when I planted it 20yrs ago
Well my project for the day was making some window trim and putting it up and then putting the 1st coat of paint on it so only 8 more windows to go.......I wouldn't be good in the construction or carpentry biz since I am too pickey and take my time
This is the kitchen window.
Here is that link I mentioned and it is in Mich.
Just scroll down to sequoias and you will see the price drop quite a bit if you get 25 of them.
They have an 800 number you can call too.
But like I said check your area and maybe you can just pick some up a lil bigger yourself.

Yeah Magic, My dad is currently doing a family history search as we speak... He's done alot of research so far and has found some very interesting stuff.. Actually one of my distant relatives was a wagon-master that took LOTS of folks out west so many years ago... Our seminole heritage is much harder to track though
I will check out that link and see if I can get some of those giants out here too...
And you guys can make fun of the OKRA all you want, but damn it's some good shit!

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Yeah take pics and give us a look at the Shock Kingdom
You know if you don't that will just make me post more pics (since I tend to take pics every day here)
And I don't think Cravens dialup can handle that
A very rare time that she took the picture.
Today......after I broke my 4th and last shovel and had to drive a 40 mile round trip at 7:30pm to go buy a new one to finish transplanting this rhody (it was from a cutting I did several years ago when a fucker let his cows escape and tear up my yard for the millionth time and I named this rhody after this old fart that was one of my HS teachers and croaked a few years ago and like the other neighbors NEVER payed me for this crap......the cow smashed the rhody and I got this branch to root and grow but it took several years to bloom again)

Re: So I got my garden in this year
You know it Might!!! Something my grandparents and parents instilled in me long ago... TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS!! LOL
And of course growing a good vegetable garden every year!!
I like the sola panels, but they are very expensive again as more people are looking at alternative energy... and you usually have to buy specially made appliances.. BUT WE CAN DO IT!!!
We have to, fuck those Middle East Mother Fuckers...it's time to make them irrelevent. If we do it the rest of the world will follow our lead (as always)

Re: So I got my garden in this year
I was feeling sick all day and got so dizzy I went to bed and after a few hours the pills took effect and it was about 8pm and I could hear the hummingbirds outside the bedroom window so I got up to open the curtain and take a look and sure enough they were out of food and telling me about it (they have already eaten about 70lbs of sugar this season)
When I put the feeder out I always hold it in my hand to see if they will land on me and a girl h-bird lands under my hand so while she is eating I slowly touched her on the head with my little finger as she eats and all she did was look up and lick my finger and wnet back to eating.
So I went outside with my camera to see if I was feeling better and took a walk around the front yard and took pic and decided to make a slide show for some reason.......so here it is if you want to take a look.

Btw 2Shock one of those pics down by the gate you can see the concrete thing I was talking about since it isn't finished at the top and not painted yet (ended up 22 bags of ready mix to get that far)

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Those humming bird shots are cool. Those things will fly right up to your face and look you in the eye
Magic.....you have a lot of colors in the Kingdom, from the color of your pad to your plants. I've never seen property look quite like yours. It's definately unique.

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Yep, Dshock......the price of those solar setups and increased 50% during the last 5 years. Not that long ago you could get a top-notch German solar system for 20k. Now it will run you 30.
But it's still WORTH IT
Muslims???? No!!!!

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Thanks Mighty
This place is one of a kind for sure and has been nothing but work and things tend to not work the way I planned so I have to wait another year to see things bloom here and having 5 acres of plants and trees to take care of and defend from all the bugs and slugs and storms is a bitch
Everyone that see's my house always tries to guess........Lakers,reggae,and Cravns birds among others!
But it is actually the Victorian style and back 100yrs ago they were all known for the wild colors and at least 3 different colors and all the rest (finish trims)
And on the inside all the wild molding styles that cost way too much at Home Depot.
You can tell I tend to carry the camera around with me but getting pics of all my wild critters isn't easy.
I have about 75 hummingbirds this season and they have went through about 80lbs of sugar so far.
I guess when you see the goldfinches in my feeders it does make it all purple and gold like the Lakers!
Today I tried to get a pic of the h-birds sitting on my hand while they eat but holding still and trying to take the pic is not easy so I never seem to get one with a bunch sitting there at the same time (but I do get em on 8mm video since that is easier)
My pet secret squirrel was in a bird feeder today and it was empty so I brought out some seeds and it ran right up to me and jumped on my foot but as I went to look down and take the pic I lost balance so I only got the one as he got close and the next was it running over to the seeds I put under the wifes car since it likes to eat and then jump up on a tire if it gets scared by something.......but it does chase the birds away from the seeds so that is pretty funny to watch.
I tried to plant this place so things are blooming year around.
I tell you what.......the next person that gets to live here is a lucky one since the only thing left to do is mow and just buy the shit that kills the bugs and slugs (not sure wtf they can do about the weather though)

Re: So I got my garden in this year
Alright cool Cravn
I thought you might have a faster connection some where.
My h-birds do fly like missles around and if I am standing still they buzz all around me and those lil wings feel like high-speed fans!
But when I hold the feeder they ignore me and fight each other for the food.
Funny thing is I have to of the feeders on the back of the house (one outside the kitchen window and the other outside my master bedroom)
Well I didn't fill the kitchen one last night so they ran out about 5am this morning so about 30 of them were fighting outside my bedroom window for the next 5hrs and it sounded like bees attacking!!
I couldn't even sleep so I did get up and take some pics of them with about 8 on my hand and a bunch others buzzing around me and in my face and all over the camera.
I haven't had a chance to load the pics to see what I got but I will pick a couple out and post em here and maybe another slide show since that will really show what was going on.
I finally fell asleep at 10am and then woke up feeling like I was out all night at 3 in the afternoon but made myself get up and get to work here and filled another feeder (they have almost emptied the other one I filled at 5am)
I still need to fill another on the pond side of the house.
btw I just checked the NFL sunday ticket thing........next post....
