I finally installed my copies of Windows 8 Pro..
And am actually using them...... and not just doing general testing...
I will say one thing, M$ finally took a clue from the open source world and put ALOT of drivers in the kernel. The driver support for Windows 8 is amazing now.

Re: I finally installed my copies of Windows 8 Pro..
I was supposed to get the disc for $14 but every time I tried to get them to send it to me that damn page would freeze.
It was that deal I was suppose to get when I bought the laptop last June.
I almost made a phone call but am not a fan of using the telephone.
So they still owe me the Win8 disc.....but I won't get it.
I still have a legal XP Pro SP3 as a backup if I ever need it.
But all you need is F11 to do a clean install
I guess my first Win8 will probably be part of some pc I buy in the future just to get a faster CPU and then update it with the better PSU and GPU and some ram.......if one of the ones I already have ever decide to retire

Re: I finally installed my copies of Windows 8 Pro..
yeah Magic, I got 2 copies of W8Pro for $15 each.....
Heh heh, but I never ACTUALLY bought a copy of Win7Pro though, they let me do the "upgrade" on cracked copies on 2 different computers....
Just do the download from M$, You get the .iso and then you can either create a bootable USB (my preferred method of install these days) then you can save the .iso for whenever you need it.
Then stick the product key up in the cloud for whenever you need it. (just save the email from M$ and you can download it whenever you want as long as you have the key.

Re: I finally installed my copies of Windows 8 Pro..
Yeah I could have done the download but I wanted them to send me the disc since they said that was part of the deal.
Win8 download was free for anyone that bought a new computer last summer and when the download started they gave us until the end of February
I still have a disc I made of my own back when XP Pro was still running SP1 but I wasn't sure if Win8 Pro fits on one of my own blank discs and didn't want to just switch one of my Win7's over to the new OS because it would mess up what I use them all for @ Cern and @ the Max Planck Institute for the Einstein Project
Back when Win7 was coming out is when I decided to actually buy the XP Pro SP3 before they were not on the market anymore.
Funny after all these years my 2 pc's running XP Pro are still my 2 favorites......never fail......and they are the 2 top computers at Cern's LHC Test4Theory and they never had any problems running the alpha-beta tests for the LHC .....BUT every other OS has had problems and still do after 2 years of trying to come up with a wrapper that will work for all OS's
So the first time I add a Win8 to my grid will be when I just build a new system with faster processors with plenty of hyper-threading.
I know several of the members running those 24 processor units right now.
I'm still working on my new room for the grid but in the near future I will add pc #7 to the room with a real fast Intel and one of the even faster nVidia cards but then I still like my 660Ti SC since it is a damn fast GPU and with a efficient PSU I can do this without running the power bill up too high.....like it is right now (just paid one for over $400 for 2 month bill)
Good thing I don't have monitors running all the time for the 6 I have now.
But so far I am happy with this laptop that has now been running 24/7 for 10 months running 8 processors along with GPU X2

And in other news, while cleaning our, er retaking control of my garage, I found a box full of floppy discs... no idea what is on them, unsure if I should just throw them away or just put them back on the shelf...

Yeah no kidding mighty_G
And to think I was born into the family of the power company here and have the skillz to actually use a trick to get it for free before it hits the meter......but just couldn't do it when it was the Puget Sound Power & Light company.........but now that the local hippies had a vote to replace them with "Public Utilities" I may have a change of mind about that
My first bill from the new company will make me decide real soon.

HA, here is a laugher a found out about, they (M$) want you to BUY Media Center now? It's a flipping add-on now!
So when you do install 8 on the new computer Magic, I know some GREAT open source media center apps.
LOL just when I think that M$ might have gotten it together they pull this shit!
Almost as bad as when I bought that worthless ass Zune back in the day... That thing fucked up my entire music collection!
