Re: Is Florida An Island Yet?
Pretty Cool, we've just had our 3rd serious rain band, I bet each band drops atleast a 1/2 inch of rain..Im so ready, my generator is tuned up, test started, I have 4 days of gas ready for it..We have 32 lbs of ice in the freezer, 2 cases of water, 1 case of beer, plus a full propane tank for the grill, plus when we shopped Thursday, I made sure we bought atleast a week worth of food that can be prepared on the grill..
I dont think I have enough beer though, might have to pull a Miggy and go to Rum
But we are ready..
I will never fuck with mother nature again, she taught me a very valuable lesson yesterday..She is King, if the man upstairs wanted me, yesterday was his opportunity, we were sitting ducks.

Re: Is Florida An Island Yet?
Ah, Crav baby. Reminds me of the 3 hurricanes I rode out in Corpus Christi TX while growing up. Carla, Beulah and Celia .. I woke up one morning to the storm surge of Beulah one morning and let my dad know a boat has just floated past our picture window. Our house was on the inter coastal waterway but the house was 300 yards from the water when I went to bed Celia caught us off guard as the winds peaked at 160 miles an hour. Our family Dairy Queen was across the street. Things got so bad we couldn't see 50 years. When the eye of the storm came over we looked across the street and all that was left of the Dairy Queen was the grill and ice cream machine. My Dad was an ex tank sergeant in the army and wasn't afraid of anything but I developed a healthy dose of respect for Mother Nature during those storms. Not sure exactly where you are in Florida but this is not a big blow as Cain's go so you should be fine as long as you are not on the water or living in a tee pee

Re: Is Florida An Island Yet?
Im on the east coast of Fl 20 miles south of Daytona, with here westardly trek it seems we escaped her wrath, this time..It was just very eerie Saturday morning on the beach, we drive on the beach here and for the time that Ive been here, Ive never see a low tide as we seen Saturday morning. The water was out maybe 100 yards further than a normal low tide. When we got there it was at the peak of low tide...About noonish I noticed the tide was coming in, the waves were far from normal, New Smyrna is usually a small wave beach maybe 2 footers at the most, these were 5 footers coming one right after the other.
Noticed black clouds on the horizon and some thunder rumbling, so we took down our canopy but then decided to just sit out side the truck..Well the storm hit and with it brought water surges that totally engulfed the entire beach, totally under water up to the ocean front condos & homes..Thats where the fun bagins, because now you have at least 1000 cars coming from the north and the south heading for one exit, the county shut down the other beach exits.
We were one of the first to get out of dodge as the only thing I had to do was throw the chairs in and away we go. Im probably a good mile away from the exit, creeping along, well as Im creeping the waves are literally breaking on the truck wheels and doors..It was an experience that Ill never do again..All I know is when I finally reached the exit looked behind we and as far as you could see was a line of vehicles driving in the ocean.
