HI...........I am a new laptop
My first post with my new laptop that UPS brought me today
(Seabird stopped by as I was setting the new machine up running Einstein)
My 1st laptop running wireless so I am actually sitting in the livingroom with the bigscreen DLP so in the future I can watch some HD tv from the laptop as soon as I get a longer HDMI cable.
For some reason it is actually the first sunny day here this year too
guess I better get some things done and play with the laptop later tonight

Wow!!
You mean UPS just brings you a new laptop and drops it off on your doorstep??
Just like that??
How nice of them
I'll bet you were surprised, eh?
Who did you buy your new toy from? I'll bet it's an Apple

Re: HI...........I am a new laptop
Well I do have a apple tree out by the pond
I got this where I always buy my gear...TigerDirect.com
It's a Intel i7 quad-core with Turbo Boost and 8GB of RAM with an nVidia Geforce video card to add processor power.
Run by Windows 7 which I can upgrade to Windows 8 for only $14.95
Total cost was $771.00 with free shipping.......brand name is ASUS
this is the best laptop for the $ and I spent plenty of time looking and checking.
But as usual the main reason is adding it to my 5 quad-core desktop pc's doing data processing for the Einstein Project looking at Pulsars (rotating neutron stars).....and the CERN LHC doing theoretical physics computation.
In this laptops first 24 hours things have been running perfect after setting it all up and it actually runs 8 processors at once (all of mine run 24/7)
I am one of the original mad scientists there,
Here is a link with the main explaination......since it is after 4am and I better fake sleep

oh and mac sucks

Re: HI...........I am a new laptop
Yeah Migs could put his entire family and all the rum in PR in the A.R.T
The Arecibo has been used for a long time for the SETI project which I doubt will ever do anything.
It is better for the Einstein project since we have found lots of pulsars and black holes but not one single UFO
Well except the ones in AZ and up here in the 1960's
Today my new machine even got some work from the other Large Hadron Collider project so it is running those right now and I paused the Einstein WU's until the LHC's are finished.
Man the main thing I had to add to the laptop was a real mouse.......I hate that damn pad and all the clicking you have to do
YOW the LHC just sent me 14 more tasks which takes close to 7 hours and I already had 9 on this pc.
Better check how many my quad-core desktop got upstairs so it doesn't accidently stop running the Test4Theory unit since those take 24 hours each and it does 2 at the same time along with the Oracle VirtualBox
The other 4 desktops are set so they only do the T4T's and Einsteins

No SSD ....maybe some day.
I got the best for the best price for what I have it running though.
(glad I have that annoying touchpad turned off)
Not the greatest HD out there but the rest was worth the $771 total that I payed.
ASUS A53SD-TS71 Laptop Computer - 2nd Gen Intel Core i7-2670QM 2.20GHz, 8GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, DVDRW, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 610M, 15.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black

Re: HI...........I am a new laptop
The wife made me go across the bridge for some shopping so I drove my newer car in this rain forest weather....and my favorites....double baconator at Wendys
And across the road is Walmart and Home Depot and while I was there I never can pass the computer section so now I am home typing on the wireless keyboard and using a wireless mouse on my new LAPTOP
I have been using the laptop to plug into the bigscreen to watch the free tv and movies you can get on the WWW but the HDMI cable is only 6ft so I had to get up and go type stuff to find the movie or just use the 82in DLP as the pc monitor
(believe me that very strange seeing our BC board or espn on the 82in )
So now I can leave the laptop on the table and sit here and type and use the mouse without a cable......which I borrowed from one of the desktops because I HATE laptop "pads" so I turned mine off.
I wanted to get another longer HDMI cable for the old 67in HD in the bedroom so I can plug the laptop in here too.
The wife and Jr still are hooked to cell phones so nobody messes with my pc's

You must have an older one Cravn
I got a Logitech (mouse and keyboard together) and the battery in the keyboard is supposed to last a year and the mouse for 6 months or more.
They both have an on-off switch so you can just turn em off when you aren't using them and it came with the batteries.
And it takes about 3 seconds to plug in the USB mini adapter and start using the board and mouse
They have a cheaper version but I decided to get the next one up with a better mouse and keyboard.
