I shaved my head...

My goal was to be Old, Fat and bald..... (well I'm still working on the fat part anyway but I got a strawberry pie from Grey Brothers cafeteria to help that out on Sunday.)

I always figured I would never live to 30 or much past that anyway, so this is all bonus in the way I see it... I truly thought about going back to my american indiana heritage and just shaving my head all the way around except for the back and letting it grow long enough to grow a pony tail down the back like the cheyenne dog-soldiers used to do... except that my bald spot wouldn't let me do that right i think... laughing

You must have more goals than that Rohn wtf

I can see guys that are going bald doing that of course.

My brother is 4yrs younger than me and he went bald and has been shaved since he was about your age.

Now I will never do that since I have always had long hair and it still isn't gray.........hell I even find it hard to shave the beard off......unless it turns gray.

You should just wear your Colts hat during the day lol

LOL no actually I went to the local barbershop to get faded up and they had a sign on the door saying that haircuts were now $20..... I was like... Damn thats my Beer money...... So I bought some beer, went home and got the clippers out and shaved it all off...

The Barbershop is no longer living the High Life..... that black guy should show up there and give them a bunch of shit about a $20 haircut.

Yeah Magic, actually here lately I was thinking about how I would like to do something with computers, Even though in this economy my friends in IT are telling me that they are starting to really worry about their jobs as well... I guess in the business community there is a strong push to go back to mainframes and cloud computing because it is so much cheaper to operate that way. Shoot M$ is practically going to give away pre-orders of Win7 for $50!! You know things are bad then! laughing

I have been thinking about how I would like to open up a little computer shop and build and sell affordable Open Source computer systems, but I just don't think that it is really feasible right now. (even though I have set up some systems that I got on Ebay and sold them to friends to make some extra $$) I just don't think I could compete with Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Fry's here locally....

Yeah it is tough to compete with Walmart and places like that but you could do tech stuff from home (get a cheap biz license with a name.....at least it was cheap when I had mine in the 80's and 90's)

And you could build special machines for people using the OS they want and then all the different versions to go in the box.

Tigerdirect always has good deals on those packages of kits where you can just pick out the MB's and processors/vid cards/sound cards and RAM........and the rest.

Just have them pay for the parts in advance and then a certain amount for the assembly when they pick them up since I'm sure by now you know enough to build one in a couple hours including install of the OS

I have been with geeks around the world for the last 10 years and man we discuss all the current top of the line set-ups every day.

Guys with a house full of dual-quad core machines with what ever OS they like.

In all my years I have been a beta-tester but still use only MS since Bill Gates is a neighbor here but I never jump on any of the OS or browser changes.

(I found a good deal on XP Pro dics last month so I got one and it was w/SP3 so I put that on my older AMD 3200 machine and it is better than ever and you can actually load it on more than one of your own pc's if you want to fake like the other pc died and of course I never have had auto-updates turned on)

Hell I stayed on 98SE until I got XP Pro the first week it came out and still run only XP Pro (so almost 8 years) and I am sticking with IE 7 and tested IE 8 and I like that on the wifes pc but not on any of the ones that are just for me to run because I can't do certain things with IE8 that I can do with IE7

(and the ESPN boards is where I found out 8 does not let me do my tricks and explains why many people there can't use the quote button and the replies are a big continuous sentence that I won't even read)

And there is always a job in the tech biz as long as you know all the newest tricks....and the old ones.

And I can tell you could do that if you want and it sure is easier to sit at the desk than work with brick and concrete on a hot day sunny

I just do that type of stuff at home and I bet you would like to do that type of thing at your own property too.

And a lil real estate on the side since prices always go up and down and as long as you only do one at a time without spending money you don't have then that would work great along with IT work.

Yeah Magic, I know what you mean...

currently I can just do it on the side and not give any money to uncle sam though...LOL

But I am getting started on my next project though... with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856167032

I've already picked up a blu ray drive at Wally World.. ($120 bones, they were $40 cheaper than anybody else) and then I am going to add WD's 1.5 TB eco-green HD to it as well.... and pick up a nice Happuage TV Tuner/Video Capture USB stick and a VGA to HDMI cable...... and Viola.... a DVR that doesn't cost me $5 a month and lets me keep all of my audio/video files right there with the entertainment center hooked up to the TV I'm testing out which Media Center frontend/backends work out best right now... but boxee seems like it is the best so far... with Songbird for the audio maybe.... I don't know yet... But this one is going to come together in the next few weeks.

Did you check all these barebone kits?

I see dual-core and quad-core kits pretty cheap either P4 or AMD

http://tinyurl.com/3dm97r

The one I just got was a quad-core

AMD Phenom 9150e Quad-Core Processor and the entire kit was $475 with free shipping.

Oh yeah, but I'm not building a full powered gaming system... all this one is going to be for is basically a media player/DVR to keep hooked up to the TV and thats it... it won't be running anything that will actually need all that power.... just audio and video and video capture is it.... It's just basically a high end DVR that you don't have to pay $5 -10 a month to the cable company for.. (and you get to KEEP everything that you record) I am going to try Mythubuntu on it first and if that doesn't work I'm going to use a lightweight OS with Boxee or Elissa on it. I LOVE fucking the cable companies every chance I get.... and I just found out that my Old Go DVD CP protection device is still one of the preferred options for getting rid of the CP.... I guess you can hardly even buy them anymore because they are so popular... (I think I got mine about 5 or 6 years ago when you could still buy them just about anywhere for $40..) I haven't tried it Comcast yet though... So I guess I will see tonight when I hook it up to the DVD recorder.

Why dont you Teslas figure out how to hack the Direct Tv signal again, Im tired of paying 100+ a month for TV then 275.00 for the NFL Ticket.

And, Magic yeah IE 8 sucks, you cant do anything on the ESPN Boards..The way around it, is to download Firefox..I downloaded it just for ESPN.

Oh and BTW here's aother good one for you from the wonderful world of copy protection..... I have a DVD recorder, and NOW they have done something to the new DVD-RW's that you buy so that they won't load up into the recorder to be able to use them.... How's that for laughs?!?! Of course I still have around 100 of the old ones that I can just open up and reuse.... But is anybody else getting freak sick and tired of these asswholes trying to tell you what you can and get do with technology that you have bought and paid for? What I am doing now is using my old VCR (Good old Sony that was the best you could buy when I got it.) and recording with that since it doesn't have CP chip installed like everything in the world you buy now. and then making DVD's out of that.....And I guess I will need to pony up $100 and get a Grex too.... since my old Cema can't filter the new broadcast flags so I can record digitally right off the bat... And the only reason is they want everybody to pay them extra money for the DVR service and that is it....I like recording the damn history channel and NFL games and thats about it... I don't upload everything I have and just use it for myself and they want to act like it's the end of the damn world. It's just like how they don't want you to have fair usage rights for the DVD's that you buy.. but we all know the movie/cable/entertainment industry trying to stifle technology is like the dutch boy and the dike... except they have their finger in one hole and a 100 more are opening up all around them. I have no sympathy for the greedy bastards now since they are basically trying to tell me I can't use the DVD recorder that I bought with my good hard earned money.

Yeah I agree about cable AND satellite.

They make you pay thousands over the years and I only watch one channel at a time and never watch most of the damn channels anyway.

But I did get em all free for a year and now I am waiting to see if we can get back to doing that.

I will pass that on when it happens.

We are just in the early stages of discussion..We have scheduled, while on vacation in August a visit with a realtor..Im 21 months from full retirement, so we have some time, and I explained to the realtor that Im under no pressure..And I want max value out of my home that we are selling.

So if we are going to move to our retirement destination, then all the pieces must be in place, with the biggest piece being the housing market turning around..

Shit I'm fucking stuck it looks like... I bought my Dad's old place for 70K.... at the time that was about 30K under the market in this neighborhood..... Today I am talking to a girl I used to date and she is looking at buying a house down the street for 54K..... about the exact same size as my place.... I fucking KNEW I shouldn't have bought this house... it will be 10 fucking years before I can make a profit off this house..... I guess I could just rent it out though, but it still burns my ass because I was going to turn an easy 25K until the damn bottom fell out.. Now it looks like I should have just pulled 20K out of the bank and burned it instead. pizzedoff ramborampage pizzedoff shitcanned shitcanned bs

Oh 1 more thing Cravn... if you can afford to buy in Florida right now is the time to do it... My Old man just got a place outside of Tampa for 42K... about 1900 sq feet with a 2 car garage and about half an acre....

They have a good friend that is a realtor that hooked the deal up for them, I was talking with her and she told me that there are whole housing additions there that are literally ghost towns with new houses... just be careful of the Chinese drywall.... it's not just a health hazard but it's eating away at the electrical and the plumbing... I'd pay them to take a piece down while I was standing right there and make sure it's USG or Goldbond (it will be stamped on the back side of the board) and if it wasn't I wouldn't pay them jack for the house because it will all have to come out and most likely have to be re-wired and plumbed as well.

Not so sure I want Florida as my residence...

My Dad left me three weeks time share on Sanibelle Island..I was thinking further southeast..St Croix seems to be the cheaper of the 3 US Virgin Islands..Building now, there are way too many strict hurricane codes..I found a nice 3 bedroom 3 bath condo in St Croix for 135,000..The downside is 650.00 a month hurricane insurance and 400 a month condo fees. Im hoping its still available when we get there in August. It has a fntastic view of Buck Island which has been voted a top 10 place to visit in the Caribbean, the snorkeling and scuba is 2nd to none.

The down side to the condo is, its on the 3rd floor..Do I want to lug a keg of beer up 3 flights of steps every Sunday in the fall?? How about groceries uuuughh..Yeah I might have no problem now, what about 5 years from now?? Lots of questions, that we'll get answers to.

cont:

The other thing is getting our belongings to the Virgin Islands..Just 1 car is 4000.00 to get shipped. 10,000 for one container for our housing goods..So theres alot to ponder.

Taxes are dirt cheap, for that condo, yearly taxes are 345.00, but then a case of coors light was 35.00 bawlin NY Strips were 15.00 a pound bawlin

Like I said it will all depend on the housing market, 4 years ago my house appraised at 360,000..I refinanced last year it appraised at 310,000..I need to pull 350,000 that'll be enough to pay off this place pay the realtor, flat out buy a place in St Croix..Therefore leaving me only with Hurricane, Condo, Life Insurance and Beer and Direct Tv as my only monthly expenses.

My one Son wants nothing to do with it, for some reason hes petrified of a hurricane.

I explained that with todays technology, we'll get a good weeks notice, we'll boogie to Florida, when it passes thru the Caribbean we'll fly on back. USVI havent suffered a direct hit of a hurricane since the 1950's, Hgo came close in 1989..

He seemed to forget that week long we had here when Isabelle came up the east coast and we lost power for a week..No generator at the time, no water, no electric.no toilets. We stood in lines everyday for an hour waiting for dry ice...I dont know how the Amish do it..Stinky Bastards.
