I canceled my Dell order!!!!!!!
Hey!!!
I lost confidence in the 1330 after finding out about significant issues with the 128mb GeForce 8400M GS and motherboard configuration.
I didn't do enough homework before I decided on exactly what to buy. So I called up the Dell sales guy and told him to cancel, and that I'd get back to him when I've done more research on a different model. The sales rep did all he could to salvage the situation, to "reassure" me that he "didn't know of any video card/motherboard issues" with the 1330. But he did admit he's not a tech and that they would be the ones who were aware of any ongoing issues with that laptop model/configuration.
Maybe after he hung up the phone with me, he went into the break room, opened a can of Pepsi and had a good cry. Maybe his fellow sales reps patted him on the shoulder, saying, "It's ok, dude.....you still da man".
Anyway, now I feel like an idiot after touting the 1330. I guess it's possible my specific 1330 wouldn't have had the video card/motherboard issues......but for 2000 freaking dollars, I ain't gonna risk it.
I'll still buy a Dell, but I'm gonna dig a lot deeper into all possible issues.
My quest for The Laptop continues!!

Re: I canceled my Dell order!!!!!!!
You could get a nice Macbook for that money Mighty.... I won't do apple though since they lock down the hardware...
Tigerdirect, Newegg, or Fry's is about all I do business with these days.... (more at fry's since they have a store here in town though) I just sold a nice notebook on the cheap too.... My old machine for 300 bills to a friend here local....
I think for the next round I am going to build my own desktop, I'm looking at cases from those 3 right now(tiger, newegg and fry's) and will hit it up with a quadcore CPU and blueray with a BIIIIIIIG monitor.

These guys seem to be buying mega systems to compensate for their shortfalls somewhere else...

Right, Kurt. In a similar manner most like to brag about who has the largest flat screen TV.

I always have nice pc's but I build them and they don't cost very much that way........haven't got a flat screen yet.
I'll wait until one of my good old machines croak on me (and then buy a Mitsubishi 75in+ )
Laptop is another story......I don't trust those things with millions of semi-conductors sandwiched into a phone book

Re: I canceled my Dell order!!!!!!!
Could it be that I, mighty_colts, am considering joining the Mac Cult???
Could it be that I, mighty_colts, am considering the MacBook Pro???
If I do this, then I would be in a cult just like Cravn, Dshock and 99!! Those three guys have their spooky Union Cult, and I would belong to the Cult of the Mac!!
I'm really struggling with my decision on a laptop. It needs to be built with rock solid components.....fast, reliable and compatible over a long period of time....but that's not easy to find in a laptop.
And one of the reasons the Apple product is strong is because of the very fact that they don't allow you to customize very much.....they maintain tight control of the components, and therefore maintain tight control of the drivers that are used. They only allow components that they know are compatible and reliable. They intentionally make it difficult or impossible for users to meddle with the machine.
But if proven long-term reliability in a portable computer is a high priority.......is that a bad thing?? Perhaps not!!
I still haven't made my final decision, but I am leaning towards the MacBook Pro. If I'm gonna spend 2k on a laptop, then it MUST be reliable!! Finding a reliable desktop is no problem at all....you can build one yourself. But a laptop is another story. I am not going to risk 2k and "hope for the best". I am inclined to go with the sure thing.
Magic said he is going to constantly give me shit if I buy a Mac.......but after I upload a photo of the GORGEOUS MacBook Pro metal chassis, he will be in awe, and I will be allowed to surf the web in peace!!

OMG it's officially the end of the world!!!
A Steve Jobs machine?????
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo...have you been seeing that stupid ass commercial too many times now?
My Son got one a couple years ago and I gave him hell for it.
AND it is now in the junk pile.
I would only use those to toss in the air to sharpen up my Desert Eagle target shooting!
I told you I would have to say this
I better stock up on email viruses to send you now

Yeah that is the only good thing about crApple now (you can install XP Pro)
But Norton is another story.....I used to be a beta tester for them and they suck and can only protect you when you are on websites like ours here.
I think my goofy Son had Norton on his crApple and like I said....it is deader than a rotten apple now.
I use the best out there (a Fortune 500 security)
Email me if you want to know which one I use.
