Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
No doubt a crazy day... not for me, but the lovely bride of 28yrs.
As some of you may recall, the lady of the house works in the athletic dept. of a local well known HS. Some wouyld say she runs it, but...
The past few weeks culminated into a crazy Fri the 13th. Homecoming football game brings a lot of extra work in of itself... add to it the media circus of Eric Gordon's (top HS basketball player in class of 2007 so they say) reversal of his verbal to Illinois in favor of Indiana Univ. Big doings here and in this part of the world. Media started calling before the day started. The kid's an incredible player, but c'mon...
Add to the calls from ESPN, Fox Sports, Illinois papers, Indiana papers, all the TV stations... well you get the idea.
Then, it was also announced (in the papers here) that MTV is considering the HS to be the basketball equivalent of the Hoover HS football program on their TV show, Two-a-Days. This is a show where they follow the team through the season. The practices, the kids at home, in class, everything. Kinda of a reality TV show. 27 cameras, a 5-6 month live-in group. Big doings for a HS program. I guess its down to the final 2-3 schools. They were at the school Tues for interviews, to see the school, talk to the Athletic Dept., etc. Just more to deal with and pressure for the lady. (Maybe you'll have yet another oppty to see my mug gracing the airwaves a second time this year - remember last year on ESPN? They're coming back Feb. 1 for another game. Then MTV? Screw insurance! I'm going HOLLYWOOD!)
All in all a great reason for the lady to be a psycho case. But not MY gal!
She's been great thru it all. Despite my fun and games at work, her circus like atmosphere at work, and some other fun and games here in my little slice of heaven, we're going about our plans for a jaunt to Vegas Wednesday! Roll the dice and see if CK's retirement fund gets a little richer! It sure looks like the BC'ers aren't going to make my fund grow...
Thanks for reading... hope things are a bit slower paced where you are. I say that, but we love it! Sure beats falling asleep at 9 pm watching Wheel of Fortune!

Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
Ha! For a moment there it was like deja vu all over again, Curt! Good luck in Vegas since, as you say, the BC won't likely be filling your retirement coffers anytime soon. If you've not been there in awhile, check out the Wynn -- $2 billion dollar hotel/casino (guess that says something about where gamblers' money goes).
BTW, NoelMan (my son) is home visiting this weekend. He jumped right on getting his loser picks in this week. Mine (not losers) will follow shortly.

Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
So they're considering North Central for the basketball version of the show eh? I feel sorry for those kids if they do, it's hard enough to just be a teenager in todays world let alone have a damn media circus around you every single day.... Even though I think that MTV should have done their 2 a days show on Warren Central then Hoover, I don't there's a HS team in the country that could hang with WC this season... So much speed everywhere, and size too.... Reminds me of some of our old Ben Davis teams LOL We finished 3rd in the country when I was there and really think we could have beaten anybody, anytime, anywhere.... and then the next generation of kids in that program DID win the HS national championship..... Then the star RB goes to MSU and gets busted selling coke to an undercover policeman... Best damn HS rb I've ever seen and he blows it(no pun intended) over a couple grams of powder!!
And Friday the 13th was a pretty good day for me....
Have fun in Vegas Kurt!! Bet $10 on black for me at the Luxor Ok?

Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
Don't get me wrong, here, 2shock...
They're not saying NC is a powerhouse basketball program like Hoover is in football... just that they're considering NC as a school to feature. If that was a requirement, LN would have to be the choice!
I agree, the schools you've been involved with have been top flight. BD, Cathedral... cream of the crop. WC is in a different class the past few years. I hear they are set to fall off, that the JV & Frosh haven't been as dominant? 42 seniors? Yougottabekiddingme!

Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
The high schools go in cycles Kurt.. One team will have a great few classes of kids and then it seems to shift to different areas. Wright was great the last few years at WC, but we'll have to see how the current coach works with staff and his feeders....The guy to watch the next few years will be Mo Moriarity at Carmel, he wins everywhere he goes and had some great teams at Bloomington South with Grossman.. and the big rumor out of the BD camp is that Allen will be gone after this season and they are going to look for somebody else to come in. He lacks that killer instinct to really be successful at that level... And I'd put that James Banks BD team up against WC any day of the week LOL.
And LN was great weren't they? Too bad we lost all that talent to out of state schools!!! Oden is the REAL DEAL... Best HS center to come along in the last 40 years or so.. and he KNOWS he's a 5 too.. I get so sick of seeing 6'10, 6'11 and 7 footers that want to play forward but have no game outside the low post (Jermaine O'neal cough, cough... )
NC should make a strong push for the title this season though... especially since Oden and company have moved on...

Re: HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH
Agreed, 2shock...
However, don't overlook the Wildcats. Their JV team lost 1 game last year and the Frosh were undefeated, so I've been told. (Good friend is 8th gr coach at Middle School feeder)
I think Gordon can take over a game at will, but if he's ill, injured, etc...? But keep in mind he was with Oden, Conley, McRoberts on that AAU team... and was the leading scorer! THAT's why IU is partying... and Illinois is crying!
Should be a lot of fun this season.
(Unlike my BC season so far! LOL!)
