I've Reformed
It started out innocently enough. I began to think at parties now and then -- just to loosen up.
Inevitably, though, one thought led to another, and soon I was more than just a social thinker.
I began to think alone -- "to relax," I told myself -- but I knew it wasn't true. Thinking became more and more important to me, and finally I was thinking all the time.
That was when things began to sour at home. One evening I turned off the TV and asked my wife about the meaning of life. She spent that night at her mother's.
I began to think on the job. I knew that thinking and employment don't mix, but I couldn't help myself.
I began to avoid friends at lunchtime so I could read Thoreau, Muir, Confucius and Kafka. I would return to the office dizzied and confused, asking, "What is it exactly we are doing here?"
One day the boss called me in. He said, "Listen, I like you, and it hurts me to say this, but your thinking has become a real problem. If you don't stop thinking on the job, you'll have to find another job."
This gave me a lot to think about. I came home early after my conversation with the boss. "Honey," I confessed, "I've been thinking..."
"I know you've been thinking," she said, "and I want a divorce!"
"But Honey, surely it's not that serious."
"It is serious," she said, lower lip aquiver. "You think as much as college professors and college professors don't make any money, so if you keep on thinking, we won't have any money!"
"That's a faulty syllogism," I said impatiently.
She exploded in tears of rage and frustration, but I was in no mood to deal with the emotional drama.
"I'm going to the library," I snarled as I stomped out the door. I headed for the library, in the mood for some Nietzsche. I roared into the parking lot with NPR on the radio and ran up to the big glass doors. They didn't open. The library was closed.
To this day, I believe that a Higher Power was looking out for me that night. Leaning on the unfeeling glass, whimpering for Zarathustra, a poster caught my eye, "Friend, is heavy thinking ruining your life?" it asked. You probably recognize that line. It comes from the standard Thinkers Anonymous poster.
This is why I am what I am today: a recovering thinker. I never miss a TA meeting. At each meeting we watch a non-educational video; last week it was "Porky's." Then we share experiences about how we avoided thinking since the last meeting.
I still have my job, and things are a lot better at home. Life just seemed easier, somehow, as soon as I stopped thinking. I think the road to recovery is nearly complete for me.
Today I took the final step...
I joined the Democratic Party.

Democrat is not necessarily a problem for me. Hillary is a definite NO-NO in my book. But, to each his own.

TheAFL/CIO is endorsing John Edwards...
He might just end up being the candidate this year....
Even though I really wish Evan wouldn't have pulled out.

Re: I've Reformed
I will have to stick to "thinking"
They aren't called Dumbocrats for nothin'
That is the best these morons can do???
Sillary Clinton?
A youngster with a muslim name now????
A guy doing his Bobby Kennedy impression and actually paying that much for a $10 hair cut???
Supported by jackass actors that kiss the ass of the enemy like they are Jane Fonda???
They must have something better than that.
You can't count the republimormon since he is from that place called "New England"
We don't need phoney bastards who will not defend the USA and the other sane countries......instead they whine about things here.
You think just maybe we would not whine about the health issue and jobs if it wasn't all handed to the illegals?
Elect me as President and I make Canada and Mexico the 51st and 52nd State and that "fence" will be much easier to take care of down south of Mexico.
And radar will tell us if they want to sneak in on boats or floating 1955 Chevy's

Re: I've Reformed
We all had better lives when Clinton was Pres.
This war that we are in (Led by the Republicans) is a fucking joke, We have a Pres that is majority stock owner of an Oil Co, and logistics manufacturing, Everytime we set off a missle at those sand fleas, Bush's eyeballs turn to dollar signs, he starts to slobber and mumbles something to the effect of cha-ching. And 90+ dollars a barrell for Oil? gimme a break. And all this happening on the Republican watch.
Put Hillary in there, Bill will be looking over her shoulder. Oil will fall, our Boys over in Iraq will start to come home.
Sad is, we went over my pension papers, June 1 2011 my full pension kicks in, at the rate we are going 3.00+ for gasoline, 3.20 a gallon for heating oil, property taxes that have doubled( Im going to find someway to blame that on the Republican watch) I or the Mrs wont be able to fully, stop working. Yeah we could probably sell this dream house and buy a condo, but we dont want to. Pretty sad, when 3000.00 a month wont take you home.
So all you people that have voted Republican over the years..THANK YOU.
My belief, if you aint a multi millionaire you shouldnt vote Rep, they are for the rich man, that couldnt give two shits about us middle class folks.
Bush
Big Bush
Reagan
They couldnt care 2 licks up you and I
Clinton
Carter
They cared about us hard working blue collar folk.
Funny, I made all my money in the stock market under Bill's watch, economy was good, gas was 1.09 a gallon, had a fist full of dollars, now look at us.
Good riddins Bush, you filthy cock sucker!!

Re: I've Reformed
Oh, Oh. Shouldn't have opened the political topic thread. Let's keep things friendly here. Politics is a sick subject full of hatred and animosity. ALL politicians (and I don't care what your party affiliation) are worthless power hungry sleezebags who think they know exactly what's good for what ails you.
Just like the potion salesmen in the wild west..."Buy this bottle of Sarah's Fantasy Elixir and guarantee yourself the end of wars, prosperity for all, free health care, paid college education, full employment, and happiness for the rest of your days."
Oh, and Clinton had absolutely nothing to do with the dot com boom.

Re: I've Reformed
I don't know anything about the dot com boom, but I'd agree that politics have no place here. We all get along too well to bring that can of worms here...
Well, except for that 4abuc guy. No one cares for him...

Whatcha ya takin bout Willis..
Dot Com Boom was 95-2001
Cigar Bill was in office 93-2001, It happened on his watch, the economy was booming, life was good, folks had money to invest in these dot com stocks. Wonder what the National defecit was under Bill's watch.
You know if Hillary gets in office she is going to have one hell of a mess on her hands. The mess that the Republican Office has created and will leave behind will be tremendous. Her first priority is to get our boys out of The War for Oil, thats doing nothin but turning into a modern day Vietnam. We are losing 10-15 boys a day..For what? nothings being accomplished over there besides putting a stranglehold on oil production, which inturn strangles the wallets of you and I.
A full blown investigation should be done on George Bush, to find out exactly how much money he profitted since he started the War for Oil. I want to know profits from his shares in Oil and profit from his shares in the Company that manufactures the bombs we dropped on Iraq.

I know things were much better for me when Clinton was in office. Even though I don't think I can support Hillary, I think she is way to polarizing a figure to win the presidency myself.
I really wouldn't be surprised to see John Edwards get the nomination this year.
Even though Evan Bayh probably would have made the best president out of all the candidates that are running this year. But he won't really make a serious push until his daughters are grown up.

Yep, it's the reincarnation of the old Monday Night Football board. Several new posters and the smack gets out of hand sometimes but all-in-all a fun place to lurk.
