Its from an article on Ravens WR Mark Clayton

Last season ended unexpectedly for the Ravens. After going 13-3 and winning the AFC North, Baltimore blew home-field advantage in a 15-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts' victory in Super Bowl XLI made it all the more painful for the Ravens.

The Ravens still believe they were the better team, but the Colts are the team wearing the rings. Clayton got a good look at the 50 diamonds and synthetic blue sapphire horseshoe on the Colts' $5,000 rings this spring when he ran into a couple of their players.

'I'm hating,' said Clayton, who sprained his ankle last week and will miss the remainder of the preseason. 'I looked at it, smiled and went on.... It's OK, though, because we still have a really good team and we still have the potential to get back and go way farther than we did last year.'

LOL, The Ravens ring was 12,000...Synthetic Sapphire??? LOL

The NFL pays up to $5,000.00 per ring, with up to 150 rings per team. Cost in excess of $5,000.00 is paid by team owners.

I've not been able to find out exactly what Irsay payed for each ring but he did buy about 275 of the rings for players, coaches, and other members of his organization. So, at $5000 per ring, and 125 beyond the 150 allocated by the NFL, Irsay laid out $625,000 to ensure that everyone in the organization received one...we're talking about office clerks, equipment people, etc.

The official ring celebration was in June and players who are no longer with the Colts (but who were part of the team for the SB....Corey Simon excluded) were present to get their rings.

I think Irsay did a fine job passing the glory throughout the entire organization.

Thank you, Blue... that needed to be said and acknowledged.
However, not all the rings were the same as the players received. The office staff, etc. received a somewhat less expensive version, but also had two tickets each for the Miami trip with accomodations and transportation included. Very impressive gesture. clap
