Say Goodbye to my little friend DVC00010

I dont know if this is the same Owl or not..But today, I seen this Red Tailed Hawk hanging real close to the house where Hooters lives, and has lived (I Think) for the past 5 years. Twice I got up to scare the hawk away, the one time I dozed off, I awoke to the hawk eating something and ripping tan feathers into the air..I think Iam not a big fan of nature anymore..The Fucker Ate our Owl!!!

Well that red tailed fucker!!!

I have one of those bastards at my place too ramborampage

Always trying to eat birds in my yard and it makes me watch the mallards and secret squirrel when the hawk sits up in one of my trees.

Sometimes the fucker will land right on the bird feeders outside my window and I can walk right up before it finally flys up in a tree and I give him the "hand clap" gun shot sounds.......but one of these days it will be meeting Betsy the pistol grip 12 guage ramborampage

If he ate moles it would be ok.......but so far it is just poor innocent robins ramborampage

The hummingbirds came back on the 6th so time to find sugar on sale for the tiny flying pigs sunny

Flying Pigs..LMAO!! bounce

They are some greedy bastards. I have 2 hummingbird feeders, the one out back is right at my head level, The Mrs likes to sit out there and watch them. Now if you walk down the deck by their feeder, you better be ready, they will dive bomb you.

Dam, you get them early, we wont get them til mid May.

I can join that old fart birdwatching club too!

We got a bird feeder from the kids a couple years ago and are now card carrying members! So far the woodpeckers are our favorites. They are the coolest looking and we seem to have the most varieties. I keep the feeder well stocked with seed and suet blocks.

The hawks come to visit and are a cause of concern, as my daughter has a Yorkie. He's a bruiser for his type, but still only weighs in at about 8 lbs. I get scared that we'll see a hawk swoop in and grab the little guy. He may not take him away, but those claws would wreak havoc with him. Probably kill him. I don't own a gun, so...

Now that the AARP membership and the bird watching things have kicked in, all I need now are suspenders, black socks and hard soled shoes with my shorts, and a four door Buick! LOL!

Sorry about the owl Cravn... They are awesome... My grandpa had a Great Horned Owl that lived in his barn...

But it's the circle of life, the hawks higher up on the food chain....

Just don't ever let me around your back porch in deer season.....

And for you Old farts.... You're only as old as you feel... You all seem to be pretty active.... There's a 91 year old guy trying to get a boxing match!! Quit bitching!!! bounce

LOL......oh Kurt we know you are older than Cravn and I so just admit you are just coming out of the bird watching closet smile

I do have the 4 door car but it is a Jaguar and I still wear my basketball shoes and I will never wear suspenders.....but I do wear shorts in the summer when I mow the lawn!

Yeah Cravn I get those hummingbirds this early every year and the usually leave around the 4th of July but last season they stayed until the end of september.

I have been feeding them (and the other birds and fish) for about 20yrs here and so they all come back to my place each season and the hummers fly up and stare in the window to let me know I need to mix em up some sugar water.

It starts out with a few and by the time they start bring in the babies I have about 75 hummers all at once and they eat about a gallon of sugar water each day which means I have to buy about 50lbs of sugar each season.

Now along with all the birds, ducks, and secret squirrel I have a new big full grown bobcat that is the size of a dog and it just sits in the field and looks at me and doesn't run off and I figure he is just hunting mice and rats so that is great........and if he eats any of my crooked neighbors I will bake him a damn cake shaped like a mouse as a reward hellyes

BUT as of TODAY that fucking red tailed hawk has been sentenced to death by 12 gauge pellets!!!!

We had a 24hr wind storm here today so the wife put the big seed feeder on the ground by the back porch so it wouldn't blow down on the concrete and break it.........well soon after I go out the back door to do some yard work in the middle of the wind storm and WTF do I see all over the concrete at the back porch???

BIRD FEATHERS!

And a hawk flying away like a chicken......leaving a pecked to death red finch laying at my feet!!!

That fucking hawk can do his lil bird killing somewhere else but not one of my semi-pet birds!!!!

I am nice to most critters but moles, fish stealing land otters and now red tailed hawks are BANNED from the Magic Kingdom!!!!

ramborampage ramborampage ramborampage ramborampage

Damn, that sucks, Cravn. I love owls.

Back in 87 I was cutting down some dead oak trees, and it turns out there was an owls nest at the top of one of them. To make a long story short, I took the 3 newly-hatched owls home, fed them and let them learn how to fly inside the house, and after several months I gave them to the state park management, who released them back to the wild.

Their names were Hoot, Who and Whom smile

Here's how they got their names:

"Hoot" was the strongest one, trying to escape as I was picking him up off the ground and putting him into a shoe box. So he was "hootin' and a hollerin". He was the heartiest and strongest of the three.

"Who" appeared to be injured. At first I wasn't sure if he was going to survive, although I didn't see any physical injury. He just appeared very weak at first. So his name was Who, because he was "boo-hoo-in"....he had the "boo-hoo's".

Now......as for "Whom"......he looked totally unfazed by the whole ordeal. His nest had just been destroyed, he had just survived the severe shock of the tree crashing to the ground. But despite it all, he was one cool customer. Even when I picked him up, he sat there calmly and looked me straight in the eye!!!! And this was a newly hatched owl, still weeks away from growing his first feather. All three babies were covered in down. Anyway, I named him "Whom", because he just sat there calmly....."Whom is whom he is".

It is utterly amazing that we didn't step on those baby owls while we were cutting up their tree, because we thought those little "fluff balls" on the ground were just part of a rats nest or something. We had NO idea they were actually baby owls!! All three siblings survived the destruction of their home, grew strong and returned to the wild.

And let me tell ya.....those birds are hearty and tough!! I guess they have to be to survive, eh?

Owls are awesome, I love 'em sunny
