My little Acer went poof. I need an external drive to wipe it clean and reinstall Windows 7,

What do you say, I'll ship it out to you  Smile

You have the disc?

Have you tried using F11 as it boots up to do a clean install??

When you reboot do you see up in the top left where it counts down from 3 seconds (real fast) before it starts fucking up?

Usually the F11 key has to be clicked over and over right when that 3 seconds starts so you have to have your finger on the key before that even happens and start clicking it over and over until it asks if you want to do a clean install.

Yeah they never come with the disc anymore which is why they try to get you to copy the D: file that is just the OS

But that takes about 6 discs so nobody does it.

I might do that one of these days if I buy the blank discs.

I have a Win Xp Pro disc since I bought one before they stopped selling them but you can find Win7 discs on sale if you look.

$92.99 at TigerDirect right now http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5213932&Sku=M17-7302

But  see if you can try the F11 key trick again......and you might get lucky and then get to spend a few hours reinstalling Windows  lol

I happen to have one (pc #7) that I need to fix and the damn F11 won't work but it happened when I tried to load Win XP Pro on a OS that had Win7 and it didn't like that and I even bought a new HD and that damn pc won't load the XP Pro disc so I may have to plug the HD in another pc and see if I can load XP there and then plug it into the pc that works as long as the OS works again (maybe)

If not I will  probably just buy a cheap pc at Tiger that has the HD with Win7 already and remove it and plug it into my other pc since it has all the updated parts and it is a quad-core and if I buy the cheap one to get the HD it will be a slowass dual-core

I have read that an Acer may use the Alt+F10 to do a factory restore so maybe try that if the other version doesn't work.

Only store bought pc I have happens to b a damn Acer so maybe I will test this.

Did you make sure you tried that just as it starts to reboot?

You can also try the alt F11.....hell even alt F9

Now I never have done this on anything other than an HP computer and it always worked (just F11 over and over as it first booted until it gave the page that asks if you want to do the factory install)

Funny thing is my damn Acer didn't start screwing up until you said yours did  lol

But mine still reboots and works and the only problem I have is it won't do a Windows update (Windows7)

HP computers always give you the black screen with the 3 second count down to do the F!!

The goofy Acer doesn't so the only way is to do it right as it begins to boot which is way before you see that "Windows" page with the twirling bs

How old is yours?

Is it one of the cheap-O versions? (like what processor does it have) and how much RAM

That's exactly when mine crashed, the last update on Windows 7,

Mines only a year and a half old. I've already sent it back once, but this time when I contacted tech support they said it was out of warranty.

I only paid 2 bills for it, I'll go get me another one.

I took it to the geek squad and those flickers wanted 79.99 up front just to look at it, told them no thanks

Yeah that is as cheap as it gets for sure.

Well Cravn go to Tiger Direct.com and pick out a HP if you want a desktop or ASUS if you want a good laptop (I can pick it out if you need me to)

My Asus laptop has been running 24/7 for 2 years.

And all  my HP's have been running for many years 24/7

I got a better one for half the price at Tiger Direct.

Asus with the i7 2.2 with 8gb ram and an nVidia Geforce card for $775

And it is the aluminum version too.

And nobody runs a laptop pc like I do.

This is basically the one I got and now it is cheaper and you just add another 4 GB ram which is less than $25

Doesn't have the SSD but the processor is better and so is the video card.

You could buy 3 of them at that price  smile

this is the i7 intel 2.2 with 8 cores

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1753822

I am tempted to get another one now just to use with the 82in DLP.........just wish I had a faster ISP here since the DSL doesn't always make movies,tv,or ppv things look very goodd so I end up looking at the laptop screen during the ppv fights and Colts games.

Some of the tv shows come in pretty good but it is a week after it comes out.

And I'm not paying any more money for stuff like Netflix and the new Google deal.

Hell Dishnetwork is better and cheaper than DirecTV but they both make me pay for over 100 channels I never watch.

I probably only watch about 25 different channels total.

But I like collecting cash and not spending it  lol

I guess I get a fair deal since I get the Dishnet,Centurylink DSL,and the phone all for $142 per month

BUT I don't have a HDTV Dish so it would be more if I switched......funny thing is I have had a 67in HDTV since 2002 and the 82in DLP for several years now too and never had a HD satellite signal.

Just the Sony Blu-ray disc player which I never even turn on.

Have you tested a Haswell yet?

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8229458&CatId=3998

For what I do I would like the power saving processors 4th generation (I could get free power if I really wanted to)

If direct tv didn't have the nfl ticket they wouldn't have me as a customer. My bill is ridiculous, we are up to 134 a month, the nfl ticket is about to renew soit will be 200 a month for 5 months.

I wish the NFL wouldn't re-up with DirecTV The contract is running out and I bet the NFL pulls the rights so they can stream their own games ala the NBA and MLB.
