Able to do anything about those ads?
I'm ok with seeing them, but now they're dropping down and covering the top 2-3 threads...

On your PC? On your tablet? On your IOS device? I suspect the last since I'm not seeing it on the PC (Firefox) or my tablet...go Android! Either that or you're a victim of the latest Google Chrome extensions (see link):

Don't know what to tell you, Magic…
All I know was that the ad that appears just above the listing of threads would drop down and cover the top 2-3-4 threads…

Re: Able to do anything about those ads?
Sounds like Kurt may have had the extensions added to the browser and you did not, Magic. S'pose it depends what sites you visit with that browser as to whether or not you get the "infection".

I'm good, we haven't moved yet though. Not sure if I will be making THAT move right now, just applied for a Linux position in Tampa specializing in Ubuntu (my speciality lol) SO we will see what happens.
Thats all strictly hush, hush right now though.

Kurt our comedy insurance agent
Yeah I skipped Ebonics classes myself (I am good with Patois if you need that)
Ubuntu is a free computer operating system from Linux that you can download free online and then install on a computer........which I can't imagine a big business man like you ever doing
They say it is the most popular free OS in the world........but then I still use 3 different versions of Windows but still like XP Pro more than 7 or the newest 8.1 which I just switch to work like the older versions since I want the damn Start buton
I do use Linux Science but not as my OS

Re: Able to do anything about those ads?
What's that, Magic? 8.1 gives you the option of operating in the form of an older version, like XP?
That wouldn't surprise me, since XP itself gives you the option of operating in the form of '98
Hmmmm.....Kurt, you mean all these years I've had ads on this board that cover the ENTIRE screen, but I thought that was normal, but you're saying it isn't?
Are you saying that I shouldn't have been buying every single product that advertises on this board for the last 7+ years?? All that money wasted!! I have an entire closet filled with crap I'll never use, but I bought it only because the ads filled my entire screen!! I'm so gullible and naive

Well a few months ago I added a new pc to my fleet just because TigerDirect had a sale on this one with a 3.2 quad-core with 8GB ram so I got it just to see if I could plug my extra GeForce 550Ti card and put it to work and it came with Win8 and when you do the regualar Windows update it has it change to what they call Windows 8.1 but to do the changes I just found a site where some cat came up with a free program to download and give it back the "start" button and it even lets you use a lil avatar of your choice for the start button like we used to do with the old Win98SE
I guess if I was a goofy kid I would get usedd to the Win8 OS with no start button like we are used to and a few other things I rather have like the box that comes up from that start button with all the things I am sure you are used to using.
Funny thing is I have 2 of mine still running XP Pro from way back in November 2001 when it came out and still my favorite since it has Outlook Express and they got rid of that after that version.....stupid idea by them.
In fact just yesterday I did a Windows Update on the XP Pro's so they still haven't stopped doing that and when they do stop it sure doesn't mean I will quit using them.
ONLY problem is the are X86 32's so you can't use more than 4GB ram but they work great for my Outlook Express email account and doing my work testing and doing data processing for CERN and Max Planck and in fact I just started my 10th year doing that and am in the Top 50 out of 2.6 million members......and I am one of the original founders of those 2 projects...........which explains why I have 7 computers here

Here's an example… I bought and shipped one of those Map Your Travels maps for my mother for Christmas. (She loved it, which is great, because at 82, she HAS to be the most difficult woman to buy for…) Now, whenever I head to any site that has ads running/scrolling, whatever - I constantly see Map Your Travels' site ads… never before the ONLINE purchase.

Re: Able to do anything about those ads?
Yeah, Kurt.....you need to clear all the tracking that's installed on all our machines while we surf the web.
To make it easy and effective, go with something like this:
http://download.cnet.com/Glary-Utilities/3000-2094_4-10508531.html#editorsreview
I'm currently using PC Tools Privacy Guardian, but Norton has discontinued it, so I'll be looking at the Glary option for the new machine I'm currently putting together.
Always clean your browsing history at LEAST once a week.

You should do that after you are done every time you use the pc with CCleaner (free)
It also does registry checks.
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
I rarely use any security other than the Microsoft Security Essentials since I don't check porno sites
But Once in a while (like after getting those "free" games and boxing from another country) I will use the free version of Malwarebytes and keep it up to date and run the scan to see if I caught something from the Philippines
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Now if I can run 7 computers 24/7 with no problems it seems you kids could do it
