The Rand Paul filibuster
Nice...
I don't agree with everything Paul says, but it's nice to see somebody with a set of balls in congress.

What? $790 to winterize and store for the winter
$1400 for single slip at the marina for the season (that's after a $100 savings for full pay before 3/15)
$4.50/gal or so for the marina gas
Beer, food, munchies for each ride
Money pit? You think?

No stainless props for this guy! A 60 HP 4 stroke Merc won't go fast enough and I have been off and on the lake for 35 yrs +. I know the shallow spots. (Although I have had the prop "cleaned-up" once already... $80 due to a partially inebriated 4th of July moment of poor judgement...)

Yessir! Keep the 'toon in a slip.
1. Don't own a trailer
2. Don't own a vehicle with a hitch
3. If I had to hook the trailer and pull and launch the damn thing every time I wanted to use it? It would still have 100 hrs on it.
4. I can back out of the driveway and be ON the boat in 15 min.
I live off of Sunnyside, 2shock... in Oakland Hills. Real close, but a fraction of the cost of those mansions. Hell, I probably have the least sq ft of any house in the whole neighborhood... perfect for the bride and me.

You know thats not a bad price...We paid 65.00 a month which included putting it in and taking it out, and that was back in 1988..
I assume this is a fresh water lake so you dont have to deal with bottom painting and barrnacles? if you do have I got a trick for you, and IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!
Ours was kept in the chesapeake Bay which is tidal waters, and nothing was more time consuming then scraping barrnacles off the bottom, it took hours, and our boat was only 28 ft..This was pre-internet so any boating tips was done by word of mouth around the marina..
1 can of Cayenne Pepper to 1 gallon of bottom paint, works like a charm at seasons end if we scraped off a dozen barrnacles, that was a lot..We did it for 3 years that way, it was the best 3 years we had on the boat.
Knot Enuff was our boats name..Cruised at 2800 RPM and sucked 7 gallons of fuel an hour at that RPM..Gas on land was .99 a gallon at the marinas it was 2.25 a gallon, dam tootin we would carry 2 10 gallon gas cans and fill the 90 gallon tank up with road fuel.
Good times on that boat, but the best day was when we sold it...

AND behind his house is a golf fairway where he can just step out the back door and practice his golf swing ....if I could handle your winter weather and the rest of that wild Lake Michigan wind and snow and cold I would buy a place on Kurt-Anita Avenue
Makers Mark is how they heat the house in his part of town

Nice, I'm looking at places in Prestwick right now.....
I could handle living on the golf course lol!
Plus I am thinking a condo would be better for me since I work entirely too much these days LOL....
I see your friend Carl sometimes CK, Lots of changes going on at the good old Indystar..... they are going to sell the building on Penn and move the whole operation somewhere else downtown.

No barnacles, but last year we were introduced to the zebra mussels. Little SOBs grow all over everything! I scraped about 3/4 inch off mid summer and had another 1/2 inch coverage when pulled in the fall.
They say nothing the DNR will allow to deal with them. They'll work their way into the motor and clog the water flow.

Re: The Rand Paul filibuster
John, if this really works, let me know. My guys at A&E Marine are working on trying to find a solution. They're interested in hearing more. Boats would have one application for the fiberglass... pontoons would have another, due to the type of coating needed for the metal pontoons.

Hell I better ask the wife if she knows any tips on this........she has been out of the boat building biz for a while but she is a boat junkie for life.
All you need is $500,000 or more and you could probably buy one of her sail boats
