PC HELP !
I just started back into college and majoring in Graphic Design. I have to run lots of programs and need help in what kind of laptop is gonna be best for me seeing these laptops use lots of space and PC usage. Mostly they are the CS6 programs, photoshop, InDesign, Literoom , Bridge, basically that whole Adobe package. Any helpful tips will be greatly appretiated.
Re: PC HELP !
Well art isn't something I use mine for and I guess it depends on how much cash you have to spend.
Usually you hear MacClowns say they are the best for what you are doing but I think that is more because they have to back up the reason they spent over $2K
You would know what programs you need to install so I can just tell you that the one I have only cost me $771 delivered to the door.
Mine is used for many things (like right now) and at the same time I use it for data processing for my Einstein and CERN grid which means it has been working non-stop since June 15th.....running 24/7........processing 8 different tasks at the same time along with running Oracle VirtualBox.
And has even played a movie on my 82in DLP at the same time.
It is a quad-core Intel i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz with 8 GB Ram and a NVIDIA GeForce 610M (2047MB) driver: 30721 which is also being ran as a Cuda GPU
When I ordered this laptop I just added a 4GB ram along with it and plugged it in after I fired it up once just to make sure it all worked.
I imagine you know how to install Ram
As always I got this at the website for TigerDirect.com
It is the ASUS A53S
It also is running wireless all the time....so it has been running for 5 months non-stop and working 4 cores and 4 threads and GPU's
I do have a small fan blowing on it all the time since it is not just sitting there doing nothing.
Hard to beat this laptop.
Any more questions just ask.......but I will be gone fore part of the day taking the Mrs to her doc appointment and her shopping

Re: PC HELP !
You have inquired in the right place, Drew. A bunch of technoid computer gurus here (me NOT included) I will say that all my teacher kids LOVE their Macs. We have one too, but haven't really scratched the surface of what can be done with the pics, graphics, etc.

I'm not a MAC guy but my strong advice would be to go with the MAC. I'm retired from a graphic arts environment and my background is in mainframes, minis, workstations and PCs but our pure graphics department was all MACs.
Rest assured, upon graduation with any sort of degree in graphic arts you will almost exclusively find MACs at any possible places of employment. They dominate the graphic arts industry. Learn the software in school (Photo Shop, Adobe, etc.) using a MAC and carry that through to the workplace.

Hey Drew..
I'm working in IT for the Star here in town and we have ALOT of folks that are using CS4, CS5 and a few that I have upgraded to CS6, I have to agree with Blue we run that software suite pretty much exclusively on Mac's... My advice would be to buy as much computer as you can afford if you are going to be using CS6 pretty heavily. We are running our photographers and designers on Macbooks with 8GB of Ram, quadcores ETC... You need a workhorse to run CS6 to it's full potential. Is school helping you out with the price of the software? I just priced CS6 the other day at $1800.... But if you are going to be running In Design, Ps, and say After Effects and Light Room you really need to make sure you have enough computer to run it...
The other thing you would probably want to look at would be something with a Retina Display if you are going to be doing graphic design.... the difference in the displays is amazing, it's like watching an old projection TV and then moving up to a 1080p HD tv... You won't believe the difference until you see it for yourself.

Alright guys so check this out , my college got brand new pcs and they were getting rid of all of their older ones to students first come first serve. SO i got to the school at 6:05 am and waiting in line til 8:30 and picked up a Mac book Pro for $20. The pc is pretty nice 16 GB memory and i believe 180 gb hard drive. think its a pretty good pc to start off with. I am gonna be looking to add more storage to the pc, so whos the one to help me?

$20 ?????
Hell maybe you can just buy some stacks of cash for 1/10th the value and not worry about working
Well I guess for storage you can add a external HD just to copy stuff or if you want to put a new HD in that rig and try to transfer the complete crApple OS over........maybe you better ask Kurt
