Early bird skywatchers set your alarms: The annual October meteor shower will peak before sunrise on Saturday as the Earth passes through a stream of leftover dust from the famous Halley's Comet.

The Orionid meteor shower promises to offer skywatchers with a dark sky and good weather up to 15 meteors per hour at its peak, according to a NASA forecast.

"Although this isn't the biggest meteor shower of the year, it's definitely worth waking up for," said Bill Cooke, head of the NASA Meteoroid Environment Office, in a statement. "The setting is dynamite."

Glad you posted that! I'll be rising to see the "falling stars." Sunrise is 8:02 tomorrow, I'll be up way before then.

This is going to be fantastic, a gazillion starts out there, its cold as a witch's tit, but not a cloud in the sky.

OK Mr Bill, Im assuming thats Jupiter the bright one in the western sky, but what the hell is that bright star/planet in the SE sky, its almost as bright as Jupiter.

That one is still Jupiter and the one that just started following it more in the eastern sky is that dim red dot known as Mars

As usual it is rain and clouds here....mostly just clouds....I was just outside on patrol here (2am)

Of course when we start getting clear skies at night it is colder than a witches tit here too

But so far we are still on our first bag of wood pellets and that might last 2 more days.

But I still have 125 more pellet bags

My neighbor just gave me 2 1/2 cords of firewood, but I have no way of getting it down here..I cant believe I have 2 grown sons and me, and none of us know anyone with a pick up truck.

LOL...yeah I usually have to unload my old beast and put a battery in it and move all the stuff around it in the garage just to use it.

Good thing Seabird stopped by yesterday with his pickup so I could haul the plywood home.

I sure wouldn't get any help doing this from Jr.
