With a salary cap in place in 2011 thanks to the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement, the Ravens were faced with making some tough choices they avoided during the cap-free 2010 season.

They began making those choices Monday with a dramatic flourish, stunning their locker room and Baltimore’s football fans by telling veterans Todd Heap, Derrick Mason, Willis McGahee and Kelly Gregg that their contracts for 2011 won’t be picked up, according to multiple media reports.

Call it the Monday Massacre, the day the Ravens decided to turn the page on a generation and get younger, faster and cheaper at several key positions while setting themselves up to make free-agent strikes in the coming days.

The combined moves with the four veterans would save the Ravens about $18.6 million in salary-cap space, and it will be interesting, to say the least, to see who comes on board as a result of that money becoming available.

Look for Heap, Mason & McGahee to be back for the cheaps..

Cutting those 4 that we cut saved the Ravens an additional 18.5 mil in cap.

Its either that or they are going to throw a ton at Asumandawanda or whatever the fuck his name is from the Raiders.

Unless Todd "Bob Sanders China Doll" Heap comes back for a dime on the dollar, why would they want him back? Like my nickname for him, wasn't he hurt as much as Bob?

No he never missed a season

My problem is his religious beliefs prevented him from taking any modern day medicines, so an ankle sprain woul take him 10 weeks to heal compared to an Ed Reed who would take the shots and be back on the field in 2 weeks.
