Not sure if this has come up, but I have my dad's train set from when he was a young boy. Its a 1933 Lionel. Still runs fine and has several accessories - water tower, crossing bell, automatic gateman, trestle bridge...

With my granndson Clayton being 2 1/2 and crazy about trains, I figured it was the right time. So I set up the train, added about 1/3 of the animals I have from the same era, and this year added some Department 56 houses, because they looked good and seemed to be about the proper scale. I set this up one night while watching a Thurs or Mon night football game prior to Christmas. It was a late night.

Here's a video posted by my son. (Clayton thought it was pretty cool... never could get him to leave the green fence alone. That's ok... it'll be his at some point anyway.)

Very nice.......make sure the youngster is careful with it so when he gets old enough to understand it is worth quite a bit of gold on that train already clap

I never had anything like that when I was a kid.

That is very cool CK, I always loved the old trains. Way to be a great Grandpa!

You should get him a new(old) train once a year or something and make it a tradition for him. Little things like that mean a lot more imho. Awesome set!
