Mom's on a flight
It's been a very sad week. My 94 year-old Mom is on a flight from which she will never return. We've been doing a bedside vigil for the last 4 days in shifts at the hospice facility and it certainly appears that she will not see the sunlight tomorrow.
My view is that her flight has left and she's now soaring to a place we'd all love to see some day. Mom: Have fun, kiss Pop for me, and thanks for all the wonderful memories!
Mom's plane has landed. She passed away at 4:50 am this morning.

Re: Mom's on a flight
Lucky to have a Mom like that last that long.
So I expect you to go another 30 no problem
(I can't imagine making it to 74 myself )
Nice pictures.......

Re: Mom's on a flight
It's so nice you had such a long time with her. I hope she passed peacefully. Lost my father while under hospice care but my mother is turning 90 shortly. It won't be too long before she catches the same flight, Blue. It would be nice if she made it to 94, like yours.

We know where our loved ones go is a better place for them, yet we're sad. For ourselves? Know that a peace never known before is now hers. I'm sorry for your loss, Norm.

Re: Mom's on a flight
Well it looks like my Mom is on that flight now too.
She is in the hospital over in Bremerton and I'm going to go over and probably see her for the last time.
She is only 69 years old.
Off to see her grandmother she grew up with working at her cafe in Bothell and her mother that left us in 2009
And her two daughters (my younger sisters) who left us back in the 1980's
She moved her original 4 kids over here where I live back in 1971 when she was only 29 years old.
I have lived a couple miles away from there for the last 39 years.
She is the type that would be at her place right now if she was allowed to leave the hospital.
I have never been the type that would be able to be there at this time when this happens.
Not sure if she will even know it is me at the hospital tomorrow but you never know how that will work......and I am her first child as you can probably guess.
I would put some pictures here but I can't seem to get my camera to work to make a couple copies of some pictures over the years.
I have been over there to see her along with several other kids and grandkids........
Goodbye Mom.........

Re: Mom's on a flight
Toughest thing I ever had to do was go visit my dad, Nov of 08, knowing that "this was it" then get on that flight back home knowing that I would never see him again.

Re: Mom's on a flight
Seems a good number of us are at that age where we have to deal with this stuff. Always tough.
I was there when my dad finally let the pain go away. Very tough, even though it was harder seeing him hurt and suffer so much.
My mom, well she seems to have found a new life with her friends on the cul-de-sac down in FL. Doesn't seem (now) to publicly care much about things back here in the winter wonderland. That's tough too... but she'll come around. I hope. I guess one could say its her time to enjoy... sure wish she could get to know my grandkids... and they, her. I fully expect that I'll get a call some day saying "it happened." 50/50 chance that happens, as she's there half the year and here the same - when she's not traveling.
Its inevitable, our faith says we go to a better place, and oftentimes the pain will finally go away. But those that are left still hurt, rather than be happy. Its a wierd thing, being human.
Know that we're all feeling your pain, Magic.

Re: Mom's on a flight
Magic, I understand. When you visit her, even if she does not seem to respond, rest assured that she will know you're there and that you care. The dying - I'm sure they can hear us and feel our presence even if they do not appear to respond. I hope your Mom's comfortable.
Peace.

Sorry 'bout that, Blue.
But I don't feel sorry for your mom....she's doing fine. I feel sorry for YOU because you're the one left behind missing her!!
But fear not....you will see her again

Re: Mom's on a flight
Now it's Magic's turn?
I'm already having my own turn with my dad.
The way I look at it, death is a part of life, and since we share life with familiy and friends, we should also share death when the time comes for each of us.
