Realy thinking hard on taking the wife on a cruise.........(Ok you guys can quit laughing now).
But anyways, what would the advantage be between a cruise or staying at an island?
She says I`m boring and not very friendly unless I`ve been drinking.(Well hell,I`ve gotta be the friendliest guy in the world on Fridays and Saturday then).lol
I hate islands, but she loves it.
I would think a cruise for my taste.
But as price wise what is the better deal?
And being out on the ocean with no exploring is not my gig either....When I`m on vacate,I gotta do the sightseeing thing.......
But also sitting on the beach sucks too.(along with wearing sandals).......
I`ve been to Jamaica and Aruba..........What would be a top island of your choices?.Or a cruise?

Re: kurt Crav
The Only reason we dont cruise, is because the Mrs gets sea sick.
Disadvantage to Cruising:
1. No time at Island you are visiting, Theres a lot to see on every island, and the 10-12 hrs that the cruise line is in port, just aint enough.
2. YOUR ALCOHOL is not included in that price!!, you are talking between 5-7 bucks a beer...
I find it cheaper to pick an island out of the hat, and spend a week there, get to know the place.
Turks and Caicos would be my Island of choice, they are running a 60% off sale right now at Beaches, where we stayed in May, it is absolutely gorgeous. It is pricey, Beaches is the only 5 star all inclusive in the Caribbean, its worth every penny.
You want to go cheap? St Croix USVI its the largest Virgin Island, fairly priced, heres a trick, dont go all inclusive, but make sure you hit the K-Mart, they sell beer and cigs, 19.00 a case/carton..The good stuff is expensive, eggs, steaks,milk..The fun stuff is inexpensive. Plus in St Croix they have a sanctuary called Buck Island, Kennedy declared it a national monument in the early 60's. It is the most pristine beach and scuba/snorkel area that Ive seen.

Check it out Mr Bear, pretty cheap in August in St Croix, we stayed at the Palms at Pelican Cove. The Buccaneer is nice as well as the Divi too..Hotel on the Cay, is on its own Island, we went over there for a Beef & Rib roast.

Re: kurt Crav
Well Crav makes a good point for staying ashore, but I get really bored staying at the same place for a week, and like you, laying in the sun culturing some high quality skin cancer isn't my idea of a good time.
We like cruising because it gives you a taste for several different islands on one trip. (Although, most all seem to be pretty much the same, unless you get inland, away from the cruise ports.)
The cost factor doesn't enter into it much for me. Not that I'm rich or anything, but we get away fairly rarely and when I do, I don't really care much how much I spend. Bottomline, its going to set you back $3-4000 to get away for a week to 10 days and have a good time while doing it.
Cruise ships are pretty nice and have a lot to offer. We stay away from the ones that specifically cater to families. I love kids, but not on a cruise on vacation... unless they're my grand-kids. You can do lots of shore excursions or explore on your own. I usually pop for a balcony room, but I also get frequent cruiser discounts (have 6 logged so far). I just like the extra room, but its not necessary, as you really don't want to spend too much time in your cabin. Take care of business and sleep, if you know what I mean.
We like the "mountain" type islands over the sand-bar in the ocean type islands. More tropical. Don't go Carnival. Be selective with Royal Caribbean. Bigger cruise ships don't necessarily mean better.
Its only money... if it were blood, then we'd have a problem!

Hmmmm, didnt know you Cruised Kurt, how do you have time to dive?
Another reason we dont cruise, is because I dont like a time schedule, If I want to lay in a cabanna all day, well thats what I want to do.

Most stops usually have a dive option/excursion, but they are generally fairly lame. But that said, getting underwater is getting underwater. I've dove Cozumel (twice) and Cabo from the cruise ship. I usually try and do a separate dive trip rather than do cruise dives. If I dive on the cruise - that leaves the lovely bride to fend for herself on an island far away from home. I'm not a big fan of that... although she could kick most islanders' ass if needed!
We love the cruising. But, as I said to the Bear-man, we've learned to be somewhat choosey.
That said, if its their first - they will love it regardless. As long as seasickness doesn't enter into the equation.

First of all guys.....When I take a vacate, its always in Feb.
My work is seasonal to begin with from March till X-mas.
From what i`m hearing,I think its a cruise....Just hate sitting on beach.(just don`t understand the significance here).I get enough of the damn sun throughout the summer....
Plus I`m not a snorkeler,diver or a swimmer........But i`m sure a great explorer.
And as mountain type islands..........sweeeeeet love the mountains.lol
And I did check out Carnival already, maybe I better check out the Royal Carribean.
The bad thing here.........Wow will I have a bar bill at the end.......7$ a crack and drinking from 2 pm till wee hrs in the morn........Spells for an empty wallet.

OK Mountain Man, then go to St Lucia
The big hill is Baby Piton, and the shorter one is Grand Piton. It is so full of steep hills in St Lucia, we asked a local cabby how many sets of brake pads he goes through in a year, 6 sets he told us..It is a very hilly Island.

Don't take this as the final word, but I don't think the cruise ships stop at St. Lucia, do they?
