NO you don't get to EAT them!
First time in many years and hundreds of $ worth of bread and Sarah the wild mallard finally brought the babies back and told them they can chase me around begging for bread.
She must have told them I will protect them from all other critters
First time ever that she stayed the night here in my pond at all.
One of the lil ones likes surfing on a small piece of wood I put in the pond so tomorrow I am going to rig it up so they will float around on it better and even make the spot they use as a nest better by tossing more dry grass on it for them.

Re: NO you don't get to EAT them!
How could you eat my lil baby ducks who still don't have feathers and can't fly......but run like lightning??
And if you ate the mom then they would have to be orphan ducks
Last night I was falling asleep watching a movie and I started hearing coyotes making noise over the security speaker that is close to the pond so I jump up and get dressed and grab Betsy the 12 guage and a flashlight and went out after those bastards because they must have found out the ducks were sleeping on the edge of my pond.
I just did a couple of those loud "hand clap" gun shot sounds so I didn't have to shoot Betsy and scare the ducks too.
Went out to the pond and (it is around midnight) I see Sarah and her 4 babies swimming around in the pond so no critters can get them and I went around the pond shining the flashlight in the fields around my plce just to let the coyotes know THEY would soon be buzzer food if I ever catch em on my side of the fence
So it looks like the ducks will be taking some day time naps here today

Re: NO you don't get to EAT them!
Coyotes are smart as hell, very street smart, doding traffic like pros. They're very careful when crossing a road....looking both ways. But every once in a while, a young dumb one will make the mistake.....POW!!!!
I hit one myself several years ago....I felt rotten about it, but it was dark and he came out of nowhere. You should have seen the look of terror in his eyes a split second before I ran him over....he knew he was a goner. At the last second he realized that he misjudged his timing.....but instead of continuing his sprint, he panicked and stopped, trying to turn around and go back the way he came. He probably would have barely made it out of my way if he had continued his sprint.....that's what they usually do. That was the first time I'd ever seen a coyote actually stop or even slow down for ANY reason when crossing a road.

Re: NO you don't get to EAT them!
I've seen a couple coyotes in the area, but red fox are far more common.
Unfortunately, there was one in the road the other day... looking like Mighty's coyote's cousin, I guess.

Better yet, tie that Flacco guy to the tree. He'll be better bait, the old broken down hag that he is.

Re: NO you don't get to EAT them!
I was wondering what kind of critters run around back in Indy and Penn State
Here on the Olympic Peninsula it is like a big zoo.
But the other day I went up to my dentist in Sequim and on hiway 101 we have these signs that have flashing lights that come on when the Olympic elk are in the area so crazy tourists don't run them over if they ever want to cross the hiway.
Well the light was flashing so I started looking to see if they were close enough in the fields on either side and sure enough up on the high side about a mile or less was a big herd of elk......more than I could count since I was about to leave the hiway on the opposite side but it looked like in the area of 30+ big elk over there.
I didn't see Cole over there but he could have been hiding in the tall grass

Re: NO you don't get to EAT them!
Magic I wish we had bigger game like elk here! People around here are starting to farm Elk and Buffalo for meat. Pretty good eating!!!!
We have mostly critters! But there are coyotes, fox, wild boar and bobcats.
