When he started looking into a complaint about a low-flying aircraft, Jim Peters of the Federal Aviation Administration knew there was no way a monstrous 747 jet, as big as a "World War II battleship," was 200 feet off the ground Wednesday in York County.
"The earth would have moved if that were the case," Peters said.

What Peters discovered was the jet -- which was reported to York County 911 just after 10:30 a.m. -- could have been considered lower than usual because the crew was practicing takeoffs and landings at Harrisburg International Airport.

Part II of Silly Pennsylvanians

WHITEFORD, Md.—Harford County authorities say a man is being treated for serious injuries after falling about 30 feet while checking on his tree stand in the forested hills near Whiteford.
A spokesman for the county's volunteer fire and ambulance companies says the unidentified, 60-year-old from York, Pa., was taken by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore late Tuesday night.

Spokesman Rich Gardiner says the man is believed to have fallen at about 2 p.m. after going alone to the location off Federal Hill Road.

He says the victim was conscious when his friends found him and called 911 at about 10 p.m.

Gardiner says rescuers had to use ropes and rigging to get the man out of the woods.
