West North Western sky
Hey Magic, what's the big bright one out there? Not noticed it before...

Re: West North Western sky
What time are you seeing this?
Early in the evening or later.....or before sunrise?
My only semi-blocked view of the night sky here is the WNW
But I will take a look since I should get a clear night sky finally.
Venus is the only fairly visible planet in the western sky this month.
A few others are in the east and south this month.
Sound like you may be seeing a star (there is a comet too but it isn't bright)
So let me know and I will take a look.

Re: West North Western sky
Well I forgot to go out and look at 10pm but a couple minutes before 11pm I remembered and went right out and was looking around the NNW and didn't see anything brighter than usual with the Dipper above me a the Perseid constellation to the north and I had to look through the tall fir trees to see to the west and I saw a few brighter stars so I was trying to get the best view in this one gap between the trees and all of a sudden.......WTF?
It looks like the brightest star I ever saw......brighter than Sirius but it was coming towards me out of the NNW and I didn't hear any sound and it was getting closer and brighter and was moving the way you would see a satellite in a perfect line and it looks like it is not very high above me so I am looking straight up at it and then all of a sudden it gets dim and then it disappears and I don't see it at all going all the way to the SSE like I was expecting.
So I go in the house and am thinking WTF was THAT!
Then I thought......I wonder where the space station is right now so I turn on Nasa Tv and they aren't showing anything.
So I had to get on the pc and find out and sure enough at 11:03 it said it would fly across the sky towards me out of the NNW
Damn it was bright!
So I didn't get to see what you are looking at but you got me out to see that and I was wishing I had a video camera in my hand when I was standing there.
Here is the website that tells you when you can see the ISS

Re: West North Western sky
So Magic, you think I saw the space station? Like you said, it was the brightest thing I've seen in the sky, star-wise. By a long shot!
That would be way cool, if it was.
Thanks for the link. I'll be looking as soon as the clouds part.
I'm trying to get into some baseball, Eh-say, but its hard. Glad we have some quality HS baseball in the area.
I simply cannot wait for the season to get going again. I saw our 2nd round pick, CB from USC... blew the knee in workouts. Gone for the season. Think he signed his contract yet?
I think things will get worked out on the contract. Both sides have too much to lose, $$ wise.

That's a bummer. No way he has signed a contract yet. That won't happen until a month before training camp at the earliest. Hopefully his agent had him buy some insurance.
Hey Magic, you think you can shoot down that space station with OL Bessy.

That depends on how long you were looking at it since it is moving but when it is coming towards you at first it looks like a bright light bigger than a star that is not moving but it only takes about 2 minutes to get straight up above you so it is moving in a line just like those dim views you can get of the satellites that orbit the Earth (they are tiny dim lights since they are up over 22,000 miles)
And the ISS is only around 220 miles up.
Its 9:30 here but not real dark yet so I will go out and take another look.

Well the ISS is about 220 miles up so the 12 guage would just make it rain pellets after a couple hundred feet.
The Desert Eagle could go a couple miles but it would come down and put a hole in something
Funny thing I was playing 18 holes of golf today at this course where dip shits have to fly their small planes over us low and making nosie that doesn't belong on a golf course and several times today I pointed my golf club up at em like it was a rifle

I would tend to agree, as I see the damn thing for hours, not minutes.
I did see where Jupiter is supposed to be huge in the sky, but in the east, not NW as this monster was/is.
