Fricken Swine Flu
There's been an outbreak in a school district 10 miles from my home
They are closing the school district for one week during final exams. This is scary stuff. I think I need to move to a horse farm. I don't think there is a horse flu yet ...

Yeah Kurt I always wonder why people ask me (or other people) why the pig is not Kosher but I am willing to bet you all have a Bible of some version (King James 1611 or my Hebrew Tanach)
And in the "Old Testament" or Torah the words can be slightly different but they still say the same thing about what you can and can't eat.
Some folks read those books and some just have one.
Jewish people (religious ones anyway) are required to read it every year over and over as long as you live.
And in several places the pig is on the hit list of critters you are not supposed to eat.
But then people say if you don't know then you aren't eating anything you are not supposed to eat......or any of the famous Laws........you get to (sort of) figure you accidentally did the wrong thing(s)
But you can't read very far without seeing this subject since it is one of the Laws written in Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
Here is a page that can give you a quick look at this.
http://www.bible-topics.com/Swine.html
And here it is in modern English next to Hebrew.

Re: Fricken Swine Flu
Thank you, Mr. Rabbi, sir!
You are correct, I do have several bibles around... and you are correct again that I've not read it cover to cover but once. Many years ago in Confirmation class when I was 12-13 or something like that.
I'll go read it now...
riiiiight

and if the bible said it was a sin to watch football ??? Is is called a Pig Skin you know ..
My theory is that pork was not safe to eat back then but that has change today. I'm waiting for the new updated version of the bible to change that ... I read where Bill Mahr is putting the finishing touches on it as we speak

Well, you've got to post it man cuz I love Baby Back Ribs and I'll bet you can pick em up real cheap right now. I have a rub recipe. Then I cook them in the oven first and throw them on the grill for the last 15 minutes basting them in KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce. They fall off the bone ... just like the pants on my avatar ...

Re: Fricken Swine Flu
putting ribs in the oven or boiling them should be a damn crime.
You've got to slow roast those bad boys over REAL hardwood charcoal....
I think that putting them in the oven is risking losing your man card.
(no offense meant)

That's exactly what I used to think until I tried it. The 15 minutes at the end gives them the flavor but you do it over a hot fire. That's the secret to having them so tender they almost fall off the bone not to mention they are much more tender and juicy. ha, no offense taken. As I've always said: opinions are like ass holes, everyones got one
