An Officer and a Gentleman
Showing the movie on AMC right now so I have to watch it again.
Get to see where I was 5 days a week at Fort Warden watching them film this (it was the year Hustler was born)
I guess I should have got a job from them instead of the damn D.O.E. job.
Actually just saw the beginning for the first time.
Mrs.Magics brother got to be in the bar fight scene outside the Town Tavern here in Port Townsend.

Yeah he used that line towards the beginning when they first are at the Fort and then as Richard Gere rides off on his bike he uses that on his next batch of flight students (Louis Gossett Jr.)
Funny it was filmed here in the area me or the wife drive through almost every day for almost 40 years now.
It was filmed about 5yrs before I met her and for some reason we were around the filming the entire time but I didn't know her or her brother that got his part in the Town Tavern and in the parking lot (he has had his crane company in town since they sold the boat building biz)
She was in a few shots with other people that didn't get in it
Part of my D.O.E. job was going out to that Fort every day since we used those concrete and steel bunkers as storage places and since it was Hollywood there we tended to skip work and hang out there.
I should have tried for some "extra" part but I got one 2yrs before that in another flick here and it seemed so slow and boring that I didn't try again (that was dumb)
All of the town and Fort and stuff still looks the same except that cabin the blonde chick lived in is gone (my wife lived around the corner and there is only 5 houses total)
My only part in the film is where I had painted the numbers 1,2,and 3 on the bunker black steel doors with the damn silver roof sealer and for some reason it gets a film shot as they go to another scene.....and I sure didn't paint that for the movie.
It's the bunker where Gere is paying some guy for the shined shoes and polished brass stuff.
I had my car and 4X4 sitting at the Les Schwab tire place in the background of the motel scenes down on Water St in Pt Townsend and it still looks the same.
She met the actors and I met the tech people.......figures

I always just figured those Les Schwab stores were in every State SA
I have been taking my same machines there since 1979 and one guy has worked there all these years that went to my HS
They do it all from wheels and tires to exhaust and brakes (my younger brother has worked at the newer one here for a long time too)
Right now I'm watching a movie about YOU on Encore Westerns (my favorite non-sports channel)
"The First Texan" about Sam Houston and Bowie and Austin and Don Juan in San Antonio trying to make Texas a State and take on El Mexico!
It was filmed in 1956 and I think I saw a kid in the movie running around with some Viking helmet on

The Texans could have used a legend of Vikings at the Alamo. I can see them now sailing down the San Antonio river coming to their rescue
