I just had a nephew of a deceased customer call and try to play the "you work for us" card on me when he wasn't being forthcoming with details on his deceased aunt's estate. Seems the $760,000 house and car being driven buy lord knows who is being cancelled because the old lady died. Yep... that's what happens! Nevermind that I was able to keep it properly insured for a year after she died. Nevermind that I'd called a month ago to get more details on what was going on - in an attempt to help.
Nope, he pulled the wrong card out today.
I told him I'd been doing this since he was a toddler and there's no way he or anyone else was going to tell me about how or who I work for. I told him he could take his dead aunt's $760,000 house and caddy and let his friendly State Farm agent fix his problem (he can't/won't) and hung up on his ass.
One nice thing about working for yourself and having built a book of business for 25 years... every once in awhle you can tell a little whiney piece of shit customer that thinks they own you... YOU'RE FIRED!
Have a nice fucking day.

As is most always the case, there were comments he made that weren't included in my post. Generally speaking, you're right... the customer is usually correct. In this case though, he was trying to make the fact he never returned my calls MY FAULT. He was trying to get me to do something that would put me sideways with my lead company.
WRONG! CK don't play that game. Too much invested to let one guy I've never met possibly bring all that down.
