Last night the son of famous Union boss Dave Beck Sr. passed away at Swedish Hospital in Seattle (his father died 15 years ago at 99)

Jimmy Hoffa's boss.

You don't see this in the paper or the news yet but then the wife and I know him and her friend for over 30 years takes care of him and he lived with her mother.

Finally got a clip from the Seattle newspaper.

Beck Jr., Dave View/Sign Guest Book

Dave BECK, Jr. Died September 8th. He was 88.

He was born in Seattle as the only son of Dorothy and Dave Beck, Sr., past President of the Teamster's Union.

He is survived by his beloved life-long companion Mary Lou Pennington (maiden name Mitchell) and her 2 daughters Marilyn Egerdahl-Malone and Carol Dee Gilbert.

He attended the University of Washington and played on the UW football team.

With the advent of WWII he joined the Army as an officer and rose to the rank of Captain.

He worked in the construction industry as part owner of an asphalt company and later as the owner/operator of a gravel pit. Dave was an icon. He had an extremely sharp mind and memory. He could remember names and events back to the 1930's.

He had adventures that few of us will ever experience. He saw the Chicago World's Fair and attended the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Germany.
He heard Hitler speak at those games and saw Jesse Owens win 3 Gold Medals in track events, which angered Hitler, who was a racist.

He was his father's loyal companion and the two of them traveled the world together including ocean cruises on the Queen Mary.

He was informed on many subjects, ie, from bee keeping, horses, his beloved dogs and world politics.
He enjoyed all sports, was an avid snow skier and remained a loyal UW Husky fan.

There will be a private graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, 5041 35th Ave NE, on September 12th, 2008.
The date and place of the celebration of his life will be posted in the future.

(Carol Dee Gilbert has been Mrs.Magics best friend for over 30 years and they tend to be texting back and forth all day and every day)
