Hey have you ever tried Linux at all?

I'm hearing that their new OS unbuto or whatever it is might be the best OS for PC's.....

I'm thinking about trying it with my old laptop to see if it's worth a shit...

Oh yeah been checking linux off and on over the years just because.

Linux servers work fine but that is different than just an OS on your pc.

They always just say linux is cheaper and open source.

But open source OS is not something you need or use if you just want to use your pc and have what you use it for work.

It's not like an Windows OS user loves messing with regedit every day mischief

There is always updates and changes with linux like you see with Windows but the main thing is 99% of things are made to run on Windows (I still like XP Pro myself)

As far as the lower cost of linux.......well that doesn't apply to most people since when you buy a pc it has an OS.......it's not like most people buy a pc and then look for an OS to install.

But if you want to check it out just to see try Ubuntu 8.04 on the old laptop.

I did read some linux guys joking that linux isn't for democrats since it didn't work on the DNC website the last few days lol

Websites always set up the code to run certain types of OS's and video players and the rest.

Linux is pretty much for people that like to mess with the OS all the time.

I used to but that got old so I just read about things like that now.

So I don't know, I did hear that it is bitch to find Linux drivers and such though.....

I just thought I would play around with it a little bit on an old machine that didn't matter anyway you know... LOL

Linux is an extremely "small" OS from a resource standpoint and stable -- lean and mean. And, I believe, there is a user interface layer that's available that gives a Windows desktop look and feel if that's important to you. To me, Linux would be a good option to use a base operating system for a web server with Apache web services on top. Unless you're a computer geek, stick with Windows.

Yeah you can do the dual boot if you want too Shock.

The size of HD's these days give you plenty of partition space and you can do differnet boot ups.

Here is a long list of help doing that if you want to.
