Blue Ray DVD players?
So now that Blue Ray is putting the HD players on the road to BetaMax heaven....
Does anybody have one or is looking to get one?
from what I understand the Blue Ray players will all Upconvert your old DVD's so you don't have to go out and buy all new ones... and that they are coming our with Blue Ray recorders as welll....
I'm just wondering if the blue ray thing is going to be worth it as more and more people are just downloading movies to their HD's now anyway.... (count me in as one of those... I've been moving my DVD's to HD for a while now... Moyea software.. awesome.)
What are you guys thinking?

Re: Blue Ray DVD players?
Hmmmm... HD DVD or Blue Ray? Think I'd go with Blue Ray.
But then, if you don't have a large screen 1080p TV it really doesn't matter. I could now purchase a 40" 1080p Sony for a lot less than I paid for a 32" 720p Sony a little over a year ago. I'm happy though. At my age my eyes can't tell the difference.

I'm not much of a movie watching guy and just catch some of the old ones one satellite myself.
Now we all have to be ready for that scam next february where we ALL have to have an HDTV and get an HD signal or all we get to watch is some DVD or Blue Ray.
If my 67 inch dies I will be getting the biggest DLP mitsubishi tv though.
They have the 73in on sale at Costco for under $3000
Speaking of BETA........I have one that was never used and have a box full of BETA tapes still in the package and never touched.
Saving it for a video museum I guess
Have had it for about 20yrs now.

Re: Blue Ray DVD players?
I agree DLP is the way to go for the money. I bought a 67" (1080P) at Costco last fall. It was on sale for $2,100 with rebates. My football room is not that large and my chair is the closest recommended distance from the screen. Man, sometime they interview players on the sideline with the Monday or Sunday night on field reporters and I feel like I can take a few steps, crawl through the screen and be on the field with em

Exactumondo, Blue! Without the highest quality screen, none of that other stuff matters. I bought a 42" SONY DLP HD w/ dual built-in tuners 3 yrs ago when we moved into the new house. I love it!
By the way, just got the 5 DVD set of Planet Earth and watched the first disc. OUTSTANDING!!! Incredible footage in HD quality. I don't have Blue Ray, but the son does. I've watched his and compared it to mine. His is crisper.
But... I give two thumbs up to the Planet Earth DVD set. I watched the Fresh Water and Mountains segments... way cool!

Good thing there aren't a lot of women on this board (apologies to Kobe if she's still lurking). Reading what a bunch of testosterone-driven males have to say about the size of their toys. "Mine's 32 inches", "Mine's 50 inches", "Mine's 67 inches"!!!

OOOOK then...
I go 42" in the living room... 36" in the bar... only 32" in the BR... and a pitiful 24" in the kitchen.
Pick your poison!
And yes, the BBC gets a two-handed high-five for their work on The Planet Earth!
2 hours of viewing down, many more to come!

Reminds me of a story: Nancy and I were heading for St. Martin's one year and in the airport they had a small band and free fruity drinks for all the folks flying off to the islands. There was an old couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and their kids had given them the trip as a gift. The MC asked the lady "What's the secret to a happy marriage?". This little old lady, with a sly smile, told the group: "Be a good cook in the kitchen, a lady in the living room, and a whore in the bedroom!" The old man had this shit-eating grin on his face. The crowd roared and gave them a round of applause.

Not to worry, Kobes went to Vegas this weekend with a role of dollar bills. I'm sure we would pale in comparision. You'll have to ask her how many dollar bills she has left when she gets back.
Too bad she didn't go out their with our own "Million Dollar Bill". He'll she'd never come back

Now that would be great if she was lucky and can make Ben Franklins reproduce real fast like bunnies
I figure if I took them to Vegas I would just lose those Franklins
