lol

All my bills pile up this time of year especially this time with the fan I had to buy for the pellet stove and the $1,025 hot water tank.

And I had just got my Ben Franklin collection up to a spot I had been trying to reach for many years happy2

Maybe next season you can bump your "dues" up to $300.  Think of the write-off!  Oh, and my refund is $4004.  happy2

New golf clubs!!

And a few rounds of golf for that much I hope.......I may have retired from golf (only one round last season) but I still would be using the same putter from 1974 and it isn't a fancy expensive club either king

Thinking about getting back in the pitching wedge challenge this season (if they are still doing that) I skipped last season for the first time in 20 years.

If we had a par 3 course I would still be playing TODAY since it is a nice sunny day here.

No more 600 yard holes for me sucks

Property Tax Time Empty Re: Property Tax Time

Post  cravnravn 2/21/2016, 2:21 am

I've got to do something, buy something that is tax deductible. The Mrs is now full-time, I'm full-time I just got a fat raise and I get a evaluation in May that'll put more into my account.

This is one time having great credit hurts. Nothing more painful then depositing more money into the IRS.

Spoke with my brother in law, and he tells me to thank Obama, he changed the tax laws to screw the middle class.

Barry Hussein said he will give tax deduction if you buy me a new John Deere of my choice (deducted the day after they put his picture on the $2 bill) lol

I just made a visit to the B.C. backup site for the heck of it and for the first time there was 2 posts of SPAM buy some Russian trying to sell some bs and left his email addy.

I had to find my old Admin password so I could delete the dipshit.

(DAMN I have the Golf Channel on watching the chick golf and those birds could beat all of us at the same time clap  )

One that is at -12 is Karrie Webb who isn't all that young like the asian group and I saw her at a tournament in Seattle years ago when I was still playing all the time (I won the pitch and putt contests there)

You might want to consider building a "ladder" of muni-bonds. Here's how it works. Let's say you have $50,000 to invest and you'd like to earn around 2% guaranteed income each year with no taxes due. That would be $1000 on your investment. Not earth-shattering but it's guaranteed and it's tax free -- invest more to earn more. Use that 50 grand and purchase five $10,000 muni bonds, one for 1 year, one for 2 years, one for 3 years, one for 4 years, and one for 5 years, locking in rates for each of them. At the end of the first year, the one-year bond matures. Take that 10,000 and purchase a 5 year muni (longer term often gains higher rates). Each year, swap the maturing bond for another 5 year bond and keep doing this each year. During each year you get AT LEAST $1000 and it's tax free.

If you "gamble" on mutual funds, stocks, silver, or whatever, you could lose a chunk of your investment (in which case you can write-off the loss) or, if you gain, you pay taxes. At my age, I opt for conservative investing since it's not likely I'd live long enough to recover from a large hit to my portfolio. The general equity market is down about 10-12% this year and, for me, that's a ton of money to make up. I'm shooting for 5-6% gain on my entire portfolio each year and I've managed to get close to that each for the last several years.

I have a chunk of muni bonds and have used the 5-year ladder for awhile. Each year the collective effective earnings range from 2.2 to 2.8 percent. I get regular annual coupon payments from the bonds and it's all tax-free income. I have other investiments in ETF's, stock, and funds in my IRA which is a tax-deferred account (and I gotta start taking a minimum distribution on these this year). I'll probably put what remains of those distributions into muni-bonds or stable-value funds after I've paid the taxes.

OK, you owe me a beer some time for that bit of financial investment consulting. Smile

Bill, you can most certainly do this as it's 100% legal. Muni-bonds are tax-free and the ladder business is just a way to avoid locking in a rate more than 5 years with an annual option, when purchasing the new bonds, to take advantage of perhaps improved rates. Beats stashing money in a mattress, CD, or bank savings account.
