NICE

Funny you mention that..........30 years ago this month was the last time I was down there in Cali at the Sequoia National Forest

4 years later I started planting them here at my place (wish I had 100 acres to do this)

I will have to take some new pics of some of mine.

The oldest one is next to the house and in 3000 years it will be up against the foundation......of course the house will be long gone in 500 years.........and I imagine I will be too  wtf

Sure wish I could be around to see em when they are all over 100 years old let alone 3000+ years.

The first one I planted here was 26 summers ago and it was 4 and a half feet tall and now it towers over the house (about 50ft tall and over 3ft across at the base)

I have 6 others that are as tall as that one and #7 is catching up since I planted them in the wet areas around the place.

The 25 I planted in the field on the north side of the creek are finally looking like big trees too.

One I planted by the creek/waterfall about 15 years ago will probably pass them all up in the next 10 years.

If the prick next door would have sold me the next 10 acres it would also be part of my Sequoia N.P.

Maybe if I live long enough I can talk the State into making my place a National Park so they never let anyone cut these trees down.

I also have one that is going to be taller and skinny compared to them and is my only Silver Sequoia

Of course I also have 4 palm trees and several magnolias and all the rest here.

I turned a hay field into a forest and now after 30 years I have deer and all the rest in my yard all the time  smile

Well I found out back in the 80's when I first planted 2 of those palm trees here that they have to be at least 3 feet tall with a few years of growth before you buy them and then the first few winters make sure you wrap em up a little when the temp gets in the low 20's or colder.

My first 2 died when the first winter got down below 10 degrees here.

So the 10 footer I have was wrapped up for it's first 5 years here and since then we haven't got quite as cold.......only a couple nights got below 20 here each winter for the last 25 years.

I have one lil one that has stayed alive but is slow growing just because it was only about 16in tall when I got it so last year I added 2 more that were already 3ft tall and strong and I wrapped them up last winter so this year they will grow another foot or more (I planted them on the other side of the pond next to each other so I will take a pic of those when I get a chance)

Today it was 90 degrees here so as usual I was out in the sun doing work here (painting concrete in the direct sun)

It was 5 years ago this month that I made that concrete flower box out of 110 bags of concrete and I finally got the time to paint it and it looks pretty good..........and as I was taking some pics of it a deer and its baby walks right in front of me munching on weeds and grass and didn't seem to be afraid of me (we have had another mom deer with twins here this summer and some other deer too)

The first Giant Sequoia I planted the summer of 1988 when it was 4 and 1/2 feet tall is now a bit taller

and 2 more on the south side of the front yard

6 or 7 more on this side of the creek and the other 25 on the north side (the ones on the right are firs I planted back in 1988)

Here is my freshly painted concrete flower box.....and the deer (oh and I changed the oil in that car for the first time since I got it since I rather not pay anyone to do it if I can)

Like those deer, I cant get over the white tail down here, they are everywhere, and you think with no real winter to speak of they would be huge, but they are not, they are very small in size..

Dec when we go to the Keys, cant wait to see the Key Deer that everybody tells me to see. Folks tell me they walk right up to you.
