I know you're out there,

Here we go, I have a 2 1/2 drain pipe, 9600 gallons of water, how long will it take to drain?

Straight draining?  No sump pump, etc?  Optimal draining would be about 12 gallons/minute but I think that's for a smaller drain pipe.  I'd assume 24 gallons/minute which would mean somewhere around 6 and 1/2 hours.  Hopefully this is draining into some sort of waste water sewer system and not into your neighbor's yard.

How 'bout we start an over/under betting pool on the time it takes?  cheerstoyou

Draining it straight into the lake, don't worry I stopped adding chlorine dec 25 after our polar bear plunge

No dump involved, I turn the valve to drain, and it's nothing involved but drinking beer and watching it, now when I wash it down with acid, that's a different story, don't want to run that into the lake. I'll dump that into a vacant lot up the street

I'm pretty confident about the 6+ hours but, actually, it could be less than that. How sure are you about the 9600 gallons (sounds a bit low for a pool)?

You can Google "water flow calculator" and get tons of info to estimate the flow rate in gallons per minute. It's affected by the "drop" or slope of the drain pipe, the diameter of the pipe, the material of the pipe. You're going through a valve so that, too, can slow the rate. Assuming adequate gravity flow and no obstructions, your 9600 gallons should drain in 2 to 6 hours. That's the best I can do.

Thanks Norm, you were spot on, the pool experts told me 6 1/2 hrs to drain , 17 hrs to refill, so that's 6 1/2 if beer drinking to drain, but not so sure I can make the refill.
