Have any of you guys ever tried to homebrew your own suds?

I was thinking about giving it a go to see just how hard it is to do... anybody got any pointers?

I'm a former brewmaster myself Ron.

I still have all my brewing equiptment but haven't brewed for a long time...probably back in 1999 was my last.

The main thing is Ales are harder to brew than lagers.

One is top brewing and the other bottom brewing.

I used to make Taddy Porters and Brown Ales and they are the best tasting.....but hardest work.

I would brew 10 gallons at a time.

I still have my brewing ingredients written down some where around here.

Main things are using good grain and grind em yourself and the best hops you can find and use the right amount.

Make sure the kitchen is spotless clean and sterile and all the equiptment is sterile.

Cook it all up on the stove.

You can even toss in other herbs to make your own taste style.

I brewed in my two 5 gallon glass bottles with the proper vent at the top (you can get all this stuff at places that sell brewing equiptment)

Then when it is done there you transfer the brew to two 5 gallon plastic containers where you do the "top brewing" until that is finished and then you add the sugar to make the carbonation and use the transfer tool to fill your bottles and cap them and then put them in the dark at room temp for a couple weeks.

Then stick em in the fridge and pour in a glass and have the best taste you ever had.....unless you screw up and didn't keep it all sterile and then it has to be poured out.

Lagers are easy but why bother.......just buy beer at the store and save all the work smile

So to start get all the tools of the trade.

From vents to capper and all the ingrediants (doesn't take much yeast)

Hell if you were my neighbor I would let you borrow my stuff and show you how it is done cheerstoyou

I even have my collection of bottles stored here.

I used things like Grolsch bottles that have the porcelin caps and all the Red Stripe Jamaican bottles because the lables are the painted type and rare old coke bottles from other countries and I have lots of those clear Corona bottles so I could see the color and the rest through the glass.

Main thing is you can't use screw top bottles.

The more bottles you save the better.

Cool Magic!!

I know it is some work but I think I would still like to try it.... I LOVE the good dark beers myself...

I'm drinking alot of Amber Bock right now myself.... I used to love the grolsh myself, but now I use it mxed with some molassas to make an awesome steak marinade.....

I was actually thinking of making my own personal homebrew and printing up some Colts labels just for fun.........kind of make a distinct colts brew for personal tail-gating purposes this season...
