I know I am still in it, I was just curious about the rest of the crew. I didnt know how big of a margin it is possible to make up and what has happened in previous years etc...

Swan, the former playoff format heavily favored the regular season division winners, so it's hard to say. I think the biggest points difference was in 2001, when Magic had a huge lead, almost 10 points!! And he didn't win!! So I guess that proves anything is possible, but the former format was basically a race between the division winners, everybody else was pretty much out of it, except for two VERY lucky souls.......99 came in 2nd place in 2001, and Blue actually WON the Championship by 1 point over Arkman because he nailed the preseason SB picks. But those two guys beat loooooong odds.

The playoff format being used now is still too new, not enough historical data. But one thing is for sure.......everybody will rise or fall on their own playoff merits. Last year it was Birdman who came out of nowhere. This year it will be mighty_colts.

If you want to check last year's playoff race, just subtract the SB points from a player's total, and that'll tell you what the situation was going into SB 41. But you'll see that the Birdman was red hot all the way through......nobody was going to stage a comeback.

I think the divisional winners should have a huge advantage going into the playoffs. What was the point of playing the regular season if there isn't going to be some sort of postseason advantage? If you ask me, I don't think 30 chips is enough for winning the regular season.

On a side note, I'm going to take the chips this year after possibly having the worst season ever. Suckers!

Tell you what.....tell me when an NFL team is given a POINTS ADVANTAGE in the playoffs, then we'll go back to the old way. Do division winners in the NFL receive 9 points for TDs and 5 point field goals? The only possible advantage a division winner has is a bye and home field. Ask the Colts and Packers about those "advantages". In reality, the team/player who earns it is the one who gets it. Yet you want a player who doesn't earn it on his own merit to win anyway. Not here!! Not anymore!!

NFL Teams are given a Bye Week and homefield advantage, both of which are advantageous. So, yes, if you are trying to simulate the NFL, you would have to reward the regular season divisional winners in some manner (most logically with point advantages). In this league, for 17 weeks, we play a pretty exciting game. Then the playoffs start, and some schmo who sucked it up for 17 weeks (cough, Cravnravn) can sneak in and steal all the chips. Exciting? I think not. The regular season is great- too bad there are no chips involved in it.

There is actually some skill in choosing which games you'd like to pick during the regular season. In the playoffs, you have to pick EVERY GAME. Sorry, but this is called the BOOKIE CHALLANGE. Isn't one of the points to simulate who would win the most money with the bookie? Does your bookie call you and force you to pick every playoff game for your whole bankroll? Pick the coin flip in the Super Bowl? Preseason picks of the Super Bowl are huge (if you didn't pick the Patriots this year, you are basically out of it if you didn't figure that out).

You guys can claim that you're playing for the chips. I was playing for some reason to watch football during the regular season (watching my picks). It's a shame there are virtually no chips associated with the part that was actually exciting. I didn't even turn on my TV last weekend, probably won't watch the Super Bowl...

I gotcha Noel, you can say it was like the 06 season also..Either the Ravens or the Chargers should have won the SB, but the worst D in the league Colts somehow put it together. So think of this year as the Ravn = last years Colts. i kinda sucked during the season, but put it together when in counted.

SUCKED = Ravens for nearly as long as I care to remember... I know, I know there was a fluke SB win in there. Other than the Patriots, it would be tough to name a better team than the Colts over the past 5-6 years.
