I know some of the old-timers don't dig some of it... But I have always thought of him as a philosopher poet, that happened to rap as a part of his muse.. the mainstream stuff was only to pay the bills.. but if you dig into the other stuff he wrote... the man was extremely deep in all other areas as well, very introspective and was a true searcher.... very rare in todays world.
